Wenger vs Fergie's foundations.

Which one of these two great managers left their clubs with better foundations for the future in your opinion?

AW eventually left us in 6th place, in a new-ish stadium, with a semi decent team.

SAF left Man U as champions, same stadium, semi-decent team.

"Fergie left Utd in a poor state tbh"

A little unfair, he left us a title winning team, yes it needed work but Moyes ripped out all of the coaching staff and failed to manage the leaders in the dressing room.

You have to consider that Gill left and Woodward only signed Fellaini too, when Moyes wanted both Thiago and Fabregas.

A wishlist means diddly. Have you seen how many players Wenger nearly signed? Let alone how many we wanted. We nearly had Mbappe ffs.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yeah but Moyes would be one of 3 managers to bemoan Eds inability to get their targets

Fergie mugged us of Van Persie and made his departure look amazing. We got Giroud instead.

To compare the two managers is silly.

Why is it silly to compare the 2?
=================
For eight of his last ten years Wenger had serious financial restrictions forcing him to play the likes of homegrown players and average players like Wilshere, Gibbs, Oxlade Chamberlain and Walcott.

The Sanchez and Ozil purchases are irrelevant when they are being forced to play with that lot.

Meanwhile Ferguson's chequebook was in another league. The Van Persie business says it all.

I think it matters in what state they found the club in too tbh and make no mistake Utd were absolutely rammal.

It really wasn't.

It's not as if he splashed more money than everyone else every year.

Wenger left us in far worse position.

Fergie left united with a title winning squad. Wenger left us in a contract mess with most of our players.

Also left us with a ton of top talent coming through, a strong commercial foundation, our stadium, several talented players (who were merely performing below their level) along with a sweetheart signing in Aubameyang. What a parting gift.

If you want to be honest Arsene did his best work between 2007-2012. He made Bracewell-Smith, Fiszman, Carrs, Hill-Wood a ton of money by keeping us challenging with little money. However after 2012 he was very disappointing. There was always a question of whether he could spend money without David Dein holding his hands. And he couldn't.

The question was whether Wenger or Fergie left their respective clubs in a better position. I am a die hard gooner. And I am honest enough to admit Fergie left a stronger club and playing staff.

He certainly suffered without Dein, but let's not pretend everything went south completely.

Let's not forget that Moyes is also part of Ferguson's legacy. Ferguson has haunted that place ever since, in spirit and in presence. Never quite willing to let go. Wenger has given us a clean break.

Not sure how you see Moyes as Fergie's legacy. The men in charge could have ignored Fergie. He was not the director of football.

We would be in the same position as Man Utd after Fergie had we not appointed the correct man. I think we are thankful for small mercies that Gazidis listened to Raul Sanhelli and Sven Mislintat on Emery rather than picking his and Wenger's choice Arteta! The appointment of Raul and Sven was down to Josh Kroenke and not Gazidis who basically was moved on soon afterwards.

Also have to remember Wenger was fired. He did not retire or leave by his own volition.

Don't get me wrong. I give full credit to Wenger for building a strong base between 2007-2012. Think Poch will jump ship rather than taking on that challenge. I give full credit to Wenger and Dein for the huge success 1996-2007. But I blame Wenger for not having enough insight or introspection to change his own role as time went on. That was something Fergie beat him hands down.

Much easier to replace a past his best failure of a manager than a winner all the way up until the end though.

Emery hasn't really had much of a shadow lurking despite his long tenure.
