A damning indictment

In Ferguson’s last game we scored five; in Solskjær’s first we’ve done it again. It’s a damning indictment of three previous managers that not once did we do it in the league under them. I know we’ve been some way off the top teams for a while now, but we’ve (almost) always had the attacking players to hit the occasional big score.

I actually didn’t see the game so can’t really comment on the performance. But if it has been a little overhyped - at least we hit five with a merely decent performance.

Very promising start but players and fans should keep their feet on the ground. There may be a honeymoon period.

People will say it was only Cardiff. Well it was only Palace n Southampton in last few weeks and couldn't beat either.

United got some identity back today. Long may it continue.

Yes , we all know 'It was only Cardiff', but as they say - you can only play (or more importantly in our case perform) against the team in front of you.

Today's game aside from the great result was always going to have a huge reflection in how we performed considering how poor we have been in this season alone. And perform we did just that.

639 passes.

I doubt we’ve made that many passes all season!

Meh, typical player power. They pick and choose which manager they want to turn up for?

Yet since the club is paying them so much money a week, some earn a week what ten fans earn a year, and yet they don't play for the club.

They play for their own interests

Poison dressing room.

Not sure why this 5 in one game stat is being hyped up so much.

Since when were good teams based on how many times they could score 5?

Of course they’re not, and there is an arbitrariness to it. But it’s arguably the number where a “big win” becomes a “rout”. Most of the big clubs do it a couple of times a season, as we did under Ferguson. The fact that Manchester United haven’t managed it since 2013 is no statistical fluke. The managers have simply not been able to get the players to play attacking football.

Because it breeds more confidence into the team and shows the league that this team can be dangerous on the break.

It doesn't reflect on winning any silverware as such but it makes the opposing team think twice about how they should approach a team that can hurt you with scoring routs.

The fact that we have struggled to score at this rate more consistently in a game post SAF shows you that the team hasn't been fluid enough/dangerous enough as a potent attack.

Your Liverpools, Tottenhams, Citys, PSGs, Barcas etc have been well poised to create this sense of 'how many will they score against cannon fodder teams' thought for a few seasons now. We really should be in this category too, but we have come short too many times.

We probably created enough chances in at least 30 league games since SAF to score 5 but wasteful finishing has been the norm since SAF left.

Cardiff actually had won there last 3 home games against opposition Man Utd had failed to beat this season taking 2 points from those teams under Mourinho lol. It was really impressive to win like that.
