Iborra to leave Leicester

Confirmation expected by tomorrow that Vincente Iborra will leave Leicester for a move to Villarreal. Initially joining on loan it’s expected that a fee will be agreed for a permanent transfer in the summer, it’s almost certain that Iborra has played his last game for the club.

Not one of Eduardo Macias best signings let’s be honest but he was composed on the ball and scored a couple of crucial goals for us. Ultimately though Puel is intent on having either 2 or 3 defensive midfielders in the middle of the park which is why Silva can’t get a game either - although he looks set to stay until the summer

Thoughts guys?

Downsouf - I think Iborra divides opinion. I personally find him composed, dictates play and a real quality player.

Other see him as an immobile liability.

I think anyone judging silva is harsh. We simply haven’t seen enough of him in any sort of system that suits him to know if he’s any good or not. He looks good in hurts, but clearly isn’t giving Puel or the team what they need.

Thank you for your restrained reply Mersey. I fully expected some fierce flak from some quarter particularly as I have only highlighted his faults and the likes of yourself will have seen him performing in all his glory.

As you mentioned, he’s seen as being immobile and that’s the kind of picture television conjures up. Not one of my favourites but it sounds like he’s done an honest job in the middle perhaps to the best of his ability.

I'm of the former opinion. He looked a great find when he first came and a player you could mould your team around. He's never really had a run under Puel and you can't be consistent when you're in and out of the team.

It's a shame he can't be given a few opportunities as he might be a better option than Mendy or, on current form, N'didi. It's strange that people think he slows the play down. Can it really get any slower?

It's true that he can slow the play down. But he can also control a probing, possession-based attack from the centre, something which our other midfielders cannot do.

Silva can also do that, but unfortunately he gives the ball away too often and doesn't look interested in defending.

What I was alluding to is: does Iborra slow down the play or is it Puel's system that slows it down and Iborra is just playing a role within it?

I do, however, think that Iborra probably hasn't been given the game time to really transition properly to the pace of the English game for a prolonged basis. That probably leaves the question slightly open as to whether he is really capable.

I think he did slow the game down, particularly last season. He's tried to adapt in more recent times and play the ball faster. That to me is a further frustration about him leaving, because he looks capable and is adapting his game. Another criticism I have of Silva is that whenever he plays I see exactly the same issues and nothing ever gets done about them - despite him surely being good enough technically to do so.

One thing you rarely see Iborra do is give the ball away. One thing you rarely see Silva do is not give the ball away.

Both however look excellent players. Silva maybe not for the premier league (although I’d like to see him given a run somewhere to prove that), and Iborra not for Puel it appears.

Either way both will go so who comes in i thought Iboora
Was a good header of the ball. But to slow in possession
and Silva not suited to this league.

He certainly gives a bit of extra height at both ends, not sure anyone else is over 6ft apart from the CBs?

I guess that’ll be the past tense of “gives” now.
