FA Cup

As a younger (than some) football fan, I’ve never understood the lack of interest in cup competitions. I understand teams in lowers divisions, who have something to play for, not being as interested.

Even so, my best memory as a Leeds fan comes from the FA Cup, when we were top of League One.

But surely if you are a top tier side, not in the Champions League, this is the best competition to win. League Cup worth going for too.

Clubs like Everton sit mid table every year, never trying to actually win the cup. Why?

Go full strength throughout and a decent side would have a great chance.

Surely football wasn’t always like this?

Its more important to be in the top 4 now and qualify for Europe. Winning the Cup hasn't the value it once had

This has only happened in the last 5-10 years, following the trend from the league cup.

Think back to 2010, and our games against premiership opposition two divisions higher than us. We put out full-strength sides then, as we did against Spurs in 2013. Thinking of the players, if I was a regular in the starting line-up I'd have been furious if left out of those games.

Any player, manager/coach or footballing,(any sports!)board that doesn't want to play,(do their job!)than they don't deserve to be where they are!..

Football to some is a job, and so its said in any job the customer always comes first!..

As I posted on yesterday’s match thread:

I think what has happened to the FA Cup is truly sad. It’s always been recognized as the most prestigious football competition in the world. For years, as a teenager, I watched the final at old Wembley with my dad. The pageantry and the occasion made it the most awesome event in the sporting world long before the Olympics opening ceremony became such an over produced spectacle.

If the clubs don’t care much about the cup, if teams play with only a few regular starters, if fans talk about it not being a big deal if the team loses, how difficult is it for us to have a really committed feeling about these games?

I actually felt like I wasn’t a real Leeds United fan after the game yesterday. I just wasn’t that disappointed with the result. It was an “oh well” sensation. Didn’t really matter, didn’t really count....

Just think about that. It’s awful!

I love Chelsea and still support small teams winning FA Cup through upsets & shocks!

I didn't care we lost.

We have one aim this season, looking at the teams put out by the majority of clubs around us they also have one aim, to catch us.

Personally the teams best equipped for the Cup are the Evertons of this world, never going down, never troubling the top 6. Go full tilt at a cup.

Liverpool clearly don't give a TO$$ about the FA Cup. Would have been unthinkable 10 years ago. Played crap against Wolves. No surprise given their starting line up. Got the result they deserved.
