A word on the former Arsenal captain and no 4. He’s long been forgotten, it has after all been 7 years since his departure to Barca! But the 8 years or so before that were magical albeit a very empty one on trophy front.
In recent seasons he’s not been in the back pages like he used to be with Arsenal near enough every weekend. He was definitely my favourite player at the time. I’ve not seen anyone with vision as good as his. He was made captain at 21, and people questioned his leadership skills. But regardless of that, at such a young age he got given that big a responsibility because he was that good. The performance against Milan away was legendary. In fact that 07/8 season was one of the best seasons from a midfielder in PL history.
It’s a shame he declined so much physically, not that it was ever his biggest asset. But I think playing a lot early on coupled with dodgy hamstrings towards the end of his Arsenal career sort of contributed.
In a way it’s sort of strange he’s off to Monaco to be managed under Henry. When those two were at Arsenal, it did always feel like Henry had to manage Cesc and the young guys out on the pitch purely because of how ridiculously young that Arsenal team was (which on its own was a pretty amazing feat by Wenger to show so much trust and come so close to CL title, no manager nowadays could put all his trust on young players now).

Fabregas at his peak was the best creative midfielder I've seen at the Grove, not bringing him back because of the presence of Ozil was one in a litany of mistakes made by Wenger during the 2nd half of his tenure.

Anyone who can make Adebayor look world class can only get high praise. In fact, Ade made a career out of that 07/08 season alone, all thanks to Cesc

Cesc really was WC.
He wanted to come bk to Arsenal but for some daft reason Wenger said no and stuck with Ozil.
Yes the way he left Arsenal was sad but it's understandable given it was for Barcelona but when things went sour we should have bought him bk.
