Der Spiegel

It seems that everyone takes it as gospel when this paper publishes anti-City stories.

The German news magazine Der Spiegel has been plunged into chaos after revealing that one of its top reporters had falsified stories over several years.

The media world was stunned by the revelations that the award-winning journalist Claas Relotius had, according to the weekly, “made up stories and invented protagonists" in at least 14 out of 60 articles that appeared in its print and online editions, warning that other outlets could also be affected.

Relotius, 33, resigned after admitting to the scam. He had written for the magazine for seven years and won numerous awards for his investigative journalism, including CNN Journalist of the Year in 2014.

No one outside of Der Speigel has actually seen the "hacked emails" that accuse us of financial wrong doing.

Time to Put up or shut up.

So this is the journalist responsible for the stories regarding Man City ?

No, so not sure the point of this article really.

Im assuming to highlight the potential flaws of taking der Spiegels interpretations of the emails as fact, despite themselves contradicting their own points by the fourth day, which is what most people have done.

No way would Man City threaten legal action as it pushes the emails and their contents into the litigation sphere.

All theyve said is that the emails have been illegally obtained. Claims are real, hope the breaches in FFP are dealt with

Looks like a bit of straw grab from city fans that say just because one journo affiliated with Der Spiegel has his journalistic credentials thrown into doubt, that should extend to all Der Spiegel journos.

Not sure where the plurality angle has come from given there’s only been one article about it?

Although I’d argue just reading the articles themselves should have been enough for most people given the level of misinterpretation and conjecture within them.

The breaches in FFP were dealt with, every accusation is based on the year we failed and were fined for. Have you actually read any of the Der spiegels articles? If so, which allegation exactly are referring to?

The workarounds to the mechanism by paying Mancini via a third organisation which would have caused a larger breach when being taken into account.

Its dodgy as fack.

If that one is true, as Der Spiegel themselves weren’t sure themselves, the allegation was £1.75m and still the same year as we failed. They calculated in the end that we failed by £89m and PSG by considerably more than that and got the same penalty. If that had continued post that reporting period, it would have made no difference to any other year apart from the one that they have already adjudged we failed for.

Uefa haven’t mentioned anything about investigating anything to do with that. They’d find it very difficult if they did.

Well as this was not known nor disclosed in Man Citys FFP failing, and it was an attempt to subvert FFP it should be classed as a further failing.

Man City fans, like it or not, you are effectively bankrolled by the UAE sovereign wealth fund, no matter what "pots" the money comes out of, whether its the national airline or development fund etc.. its all part of the same thing.

You have no idea if it was or if it wasn’t and neither do Der Speigel, which is why they caveats it hugely. Even if it were to be true, their own allegation is that it started before FFp even came into existence. We have defacto already denied it by saying we complied with all relevant accounting principles.

We are predominately bankrolled from Mansours own money which was from the sale of Barclays. 19% of our revenue comes from Abu Dhabi sponsorships, the bulk of which were put through the value assessment by UEFA at the time. If that money didn’t come from Etihad (which they have flat out denied as well), then it’s none of Uefas business, they have no jurisdiction to look at it and nor should they care. They should about Aabar if that ones true, but again that depends on if their interpretation of who the emails were referring to were correct, which we’ve also said they weren’t (the out of context line).
