My money would be on them replacing it with another artificial.

There are good plastic pitches out there there though so would be good to see an upgrade at least

Better, yes.

Good, debatable?

We got a lecture on artificial pitches from one of our suppliers this week

Quite interesting the misconceptions about them. No such thing as 4G and 5G pitches for example. They’re just marketing ploys.

Don't like watching football on them, thought it might just be my eyes but over the last 3 sessons I'm certain the bounce, roll and control on them is entirley different from grass

But bearing in mind it was a supplier talking then it might have been in teir interest to dis the guys that are selling 4/5/6G? Cynical, moi?

Its true that no body has officially recognised a defined 4G or higher standard though AFAIK there is a common understanding that 4G does away with the rubber crumb?

Only going on what a large UK designer and installer told us but they are all rubber crumb based.

The standard and type and other constituent parts only come into it from the end user client who will ask for specifics on performance, lifespan and as ever always depends upon their budget and maintenance allowances.

All are 3G and any decent sports club or user will know that.

4G and 5G are terms dreamed up to make us gullible ones think they’re somehow essentially different and thereby better.

Different yes but only as in how much you can pay for and in any event it’s just different percentages of the same constituent parts used. 👍

Not just your eyes. And the difference between wet and dry roll performance is bigger on astro. Add to that the type of wet - I am convinced when it is raining steadily the ball zips across the top nicely but if it is more of a smir or retained wet after the rain has stopped then the water beads on the fibres and drags? No evidence other than watching hundreds of matches. No science but my theory is that steady rain hitting the fibres disturbing any beads to the ground. But it also might be a conspiracy in my own head because the conditions are never the same twice.

Again, he might say that if he doesn't have a 4G product to sell? I don't know!

You are correct, its a huge menu the ground prep, the underlay, the turf, the crumb size, shape & density.
