Football fans across Scotland have sent messages of support to Rangers hero Fernando Ricksen after news broke that he would spend the rest of his life in a hospice.
The 42-year-old former defender has been battling Motor Neuron Disease since 2013.
He was rushed to hospital after he fell ill during an Ibrox fans' event in October.
Two months later, he was taken to the St Andrew’s Hospice in Airdrie - a move he revealed was his choice given the quality of care he would receive there.
Ricksen said: "I know I will stay in this hospice for the rest of my life. I have no other choice but to accept it."
After the devastating news was announced last night, fans from across the country sent their support for the Dutchman.
So sad to see how bad this horrible disease has took over the poor guys life,Keep fighting Fernando,My thoughts and I`am sure most on here are with you.

Such a lengthy, distressing way to spend the last few years of his life-and for his family as well.
Only hope this can end as painless for him as possible.

It's really sad news and you wouldn't wish this on anyone. We really do take our health for granted and seeing things like this certainly gives me a little more perspective.
