Prince Phillip

Why the feck are 97 year olds still able to drive? Just because he's royalty doesn't detract from the fact that he could've seriously hurt someone (I couldn't give a feck if he kills himself the stupid old oaf).

It's mad that it's the 18-25 year old drivers that are demonised in the media. Granted there are appalling drivers at all ages, but a 19 year old driving a 1997 1 litre Nissan Micra that his older brother gave him is going to do less damage than someone who is practically blind driving around in a Range Rover. If you're on the motorway and there's some moron doing 40mph in the middle lane, it's normally some old dear who's on her way to bingo and taken a wrong turn. Not to mention the amount of old people that have gone the wrong way on the motorway (one recently killed an army veteran) .

There should be mandatory driving tests for people over a certain age. If you can't pass use your bus pass and stop being selfish.

Rant over.

I was walking my dogs today and an old lady drove past slowly.

About 2 mins later, a young guy came flying past - clearly breaking the speed limit and showing no regard for the residential area he was in.

I know which group of drivers worries me the most.

The old people. Clearly she was driving so slow that he had to take a risk in overtaking.

Bloody old drivers. A menace they are.

He was starting his overtake early, she was a couple of minutes away in a different road!

Exactly, he was planning ahead.

Old v young an example; heading towards a roundabout that you can see traffic on all directions (ie no obstructions).

Young person- slows slightly, checks right and left as they approach, realise no traffic either direction so don’t have to slow down. This keeps the traffic flowing well.

Old person- tunnel vision, doesn’t check either direction. Stops dead, despite no traffic on roubdabout. Then checks left and right. Slows everything down. Needlessly.

Young people - take unnecessary risks.

Old people - dont.

Again, I know which I’d rather.

You’d rather what Winston?

And I hope you get consent from them.

I’d rather share the roads with people less likely to take risks, even if their general competence is lower.

It’s a fair point. I like to get to a destination before I’m 92. You’d think old people would be the fastest in the land, given the one thing they have least of is time. But no, they seem to drive in an alternate reality, where 30 mph is the equivillent of 357mph.

Nor do young people, given the amount that I see accelerating hard, driving too fast and using their phones without a care in the world.
