Fergie put less emphasis on the domestic cups towards the end, to be fair. Though I wouldn’t say it’s always a case of less emphasis with Spurs. They’ve often got themselves into good positions in cups then facked it up - this is their third semi in three seasons.
I think it’s a fair criticism of his management skills, however. But then there is the issue of it being Spurs as well - they’ve lost to us and Chelsea in these games.
I don’t think we’ll truly know the level at which Pochettino can operate at the highest level until he manages one of the world’s biggest clubs. That may sound elitist, and to an extent it is, but that is where the pressure are at their highest and where you’re given the tools to deliver - net spend trophies and building competitive teams on smaller budgets have different requirements of a manager.

They could start by shooting Giroud

True, he did. And though it shouldn't be excused, SAF did prove his worth in the cups over time. Plus he had already shown his pedigree back across the border when he took on the 'Old Firm'.
Whereas Poch as you have mentioned has several times now gotten his side into a good positions to actually win a cup but as per usual stumbles onto the hurdles. You'd have to question his credentials when it comes to real pressure. Because constant navigation in high pressure situations is what big elite clubs thrive on.
With the two managers as the front runners to take over at United in the summer, both candidates would still be a gamble/risk. But hey, at least we'd be playing better entertaining football.
But looking into the bigger picture, I can still see why Poch is a viable candidate. But is it enough to lead this club though?

Yeah and I think it’s a fair criticism. I think the issue is that while we are one of Europe’s elite clubs we are not one of its elite teams, we have to build ourselves baxk up to being that and it’ll take more than just a new coach. And there are very few, if any, coaches that tick all the boxes for where we want to be. Obviously you want a coach with as little flaws as possible but it’s years now that so much of the focus has been on the managers, and not on the club being able to create an environment for them to thrive. Football still boils down to the players more than anything. It’s why all of the best clubs in Europe can continue to play at the top level despite huge overturns in coaches. Despite having good players, it’s still not enough to reach the pinnacle. And when you combine that with poor managerial choices you are facked.

Was always going to happen, you can't lose squad players and not invest a penny.
Although pens is always the sign of a squads mental strength, so the loss does say a lot.

when Spurs were interested in Ole as a player he said he would rather play in United's reserves and take his chances than be a regular starter for Spurs.
Spurs will always be.. just Spurs.
