What would define a successful season

How would you judge what is a succesful season
for Arsenal.

Most would say Top4 or CL qualification.

For me it is to do better than last season

League 63 points last season .Get 64 points

Europa League Semi -Try and get to the final and hopefully win it

FA Cup Last season 3rd round. This season 4th round

League cup - Did better last season

We spent £70 mil on 4 players that's hardly saying we signed quality. More of a scatter gun approach in the hope that they do well.

These days £70Mil is nothing. Top players cost min £40Mil each unless you get lucky.

Sad times. Gone from flying Wenger out planes after finishing second and winning cups to hoping we get one more point than our worst ever season

I told all of you that you underestimated the success we were having and that without man City /Chelsea /United esque spending we would never dominate the league. I told you Wenger was doing a good job when he was getting us top four every year. Now you would give your right arm to be back in that position

You can't actually be serious with this can you? You sound like a child. "I told you this, i told you that".

The team and club in so many aspects had been stagnating and deteriorating for close to a decade, winning a few FA Cups doesn't change that. Wenger was our greatest ever manager and will always be a legend but he really got left behind by modern techniques and manager in his final few years particularly and stayed past his sell by date.

His final few years he declined for sure represented by the fact he stopped getting top four. Stagnating for a decade is an idiotic statement though. He was doing as well as anyone could with what he had. Finishing second and third fairly often. This is what I mean. In one breath you are saying you would be happy with top four or that we are two points better off than our worst season under Wenger but in another breath you are saying wenger finishing second with a worse squad was a failure

if Emery got top four this season and next we would be dancing in the streets. I'm actually desperate to be in champions league again and actually care about our European games

"Stagnating for a decade is an idiotic statement though."
I said close to a decade and there is really nothing idiotic about that, we saw the same mistakes and failures repeated season after season, depending on personal opinions that's anywhere from 7-10 years ago. We last won the Premier League in the 2003/2004 season... That's over 15 years ago.

"He was doing as well as anyone could with what he had". Couldn't disagree more.

"This is what I mean. In one breath you are saying you would be happy with top four or that we are two points better off than our worst season under Wenger but in another breath you are saying wenger finishing second with a worse squad was a failure "

Are you confusing me with someone else? The words you are claiming i'm 'saying' i have not said... Whether they are correct or not.

Just look at the mess we have been left in now and the damage that has been done over the last 7-10 years. Emery is doing his best to repair some of it but it's clear how big of a task that is.

But Klopp had a pedigree. He won the german league beaten a much superior team in Bayern. So he bought himself some time with that achievement. Same with Pep.
Now I know people will say Emery won ligue 1 but that was with probably the most expensive squad in Europe. Bearing in mind, he lost it in his first year to Monaco. If Monaco had managed to keep their players, he'd have probably also lost it 2nd time around.
His best achievement in La Liga was 5th.

No, his best achievement in La Liga was 3rd, which he achieved 3 times with Valencia on a shoestring budget.

Valencia was 10th when he came to the club, he got them to 6th in his first season there and then finished in the automatic Champions League qualification spots from there on in up until he left in 2012.
