Delusions of Grandeur

"A false impression of one's own importance."

If a phrase ever summarised some of the fans on this board it's delusions of grandeur. Keep reading the usual suspects moan that Pochettino isn't winning trophies and Levy is not ambitious enough. That we need to return to the clubs roots because it's all about the money now...

But hold on a second - return to where? Have you forgotten that over the last 20 years we've won just a single league cup. In all of those years we've made the Champions League just five times, three of which have come under Pochettino where we finished 3rd, 2nd and 3rd hitting our highest every points total in the league.

It's unfortunate that clubs have ran into riches and can afford to address every area of weakness in the blink of an eye but that's nothing to blame our manager or chairman about.

My definitive list came out longer than I thought it would!

Honestly I’m f**** sick to death of seeing us achieve nothing every single season. It’s not throwing my toys out the pram, it’s being incredibly patient and spending a lot of my money down the years. Amount I spend on that fa cup semi last year against United only to see us bottle it ONCE again!!! League cup final against cheers recently, more money spent and left p*** off and disappointed. Honesty sick of it

don, I think you underestimate how far we were behind the likes of arsenal Chelsea man u etc.... we were miiiiiiiles behind. our team is just as good now, but financially they are still miles ahead of us, which is why we need the stadium.....

honestly when arsenal were winning doubles and we were mid table they were at least 10 years ahead of us

Boss by Hugo, yes I would thank Levy for getting the club stabilised and delivering the stadium. But in my opinion, it’s time for serious backers to push us up a new level. People can hate the oil barons and money all they like, but unfortunately it’s the only way to go if you want sustained success. Serious backing and improving season after season. Not making a single signing last summer is not serious backing, it’s a shambles.

Right but what you're doing at the moment is having a go at Levy for not being a billionaire who showers their club with money.

Considering we and many don't have that privilege then Levy has done a great job getting us to where we are. Agree on this summers transfers but the reaction during the last week is being blown out of proportion.

Don, I get all that, and I definitely agree it was foolish not to add a bit more depth in the summer at not too great an expense. All things considered though, you're still in a much better place now than you were ten years ago, or when Levy took over back at the start of the Sky 4 days.

I get the frustration at such a long wait for a trophy that seems to be within touching distance, but it really does seem there's a clear longer-term aim.

You had a good shot at the League Cup, but even accepting that you should have added some depth, you must admit that the stars aligned against you to an extent. I fully understand putting out a weakened side in the FA Cup in view of how far you still had to go in that competition, the current injury situation, and given what's in store on other fronts.

I just think that prioritising an FA Cup run right now would come with the seriously increased risk of opening the league door for Chelsea and Arsenal, which really is the last thing you'd want to do.

The repercussions could be far greater than having to wait another season for a trophy.

I imagine what Don, and I want from Levy is just a little bit more ambition particularly in transfer windows. Is it really that much to want just a few more signings here and there in transfer windows? You can't tell me we couldn't have got 1 in 2 of our last transfer windows, and this could be the difference between winning a trophy and only making it to a semi-final.

Credit to Levy where it is due but criticism of him in transfer windows is more than fair when he constantly falls short in backing managers, and it's happened for years before Poch and the new stadium.

People seem to treat only getting top 4 for us like it's the most we could have hoped for in the past 10 years. We definitely could have achieved a trophy or 2 with just a tad more ambition.

spot on.

Levy is a caaaaant because hes not filthy rich and has money to burn and pour into the club. How dare he not be a billionaire.

Tbf the money thing doesn’t work as our owners Enic are worth multiple billions they just choose not to put the money in.

well yes, Tottenham Hotspur is merely another business interest in the ENIC portfolio... which Is why its run as a sensible business, not a rich owner play thing...

Don probably cannot understand this though
