The Loan System - "Big" Clubs

This is not a wum aimed at Chelsea fans particularly, but does anyone else think that there's something not quite right about a club that is reported to have approx. 40 players out on loan, then signing a player on loan themselves? It really does seem odd to me.

I actually think that "big clubs" - let's define that on revenues over a certain amount - should not be allowed to sign a player on loan.

I know that we currently have a need for additional players, but I would much prefer that we identify the right player and sign them on a permanent deal rather that loaning some other club's player.

The loan system should really be for young players that can't get into their parent club's first team and then being loaned out to another club (more likely a "smaller" club) where they will get game time.

You could possibly make the same argument for players over 30, but again, being loaned to "smaller" clubs only.

With the vast sums of money that football generates, particularly for bigger clubs, they should not be allowed benefit from signing players on loan in my view.

I suspect that this might not meet with much support!, but what do you all think?

Does anyone else think that Chelsea are taking the pee, in wanting to loan Higuain whilst having 40 odd players of their own out on loan?

It seems like an abuse of the loan system to me, and I think it should be looked at by the relevant authorities. There should be a limit to the number of players you can loan out, plus if you have more than 11 out on loan then you should not be allowed to loan other teams players.

What encouragement does it give to either their current young players still at the club or those out on loan, that they will get their chance in the team.

No wonder Hudson-Odoi wants to go to Germany and play for Bayern.

Chelsea's system works. Look how many ex Chelsea youth/reserve players actually play in the top six or eight leagues in Europe. And it makes them a lot of money. Clubs are businesses and many of these 40 players on loan will make it at top clubs, albeit not Chelsea.

How do you determine what's a smaller club?

By revenues under a specified threshold.

Its Plain wrong. Stock piling talent and loaning them out till their ready. They then cherry pick the cream few years down the line.. If they don't make the grade they get discarded and sold for profit.
Can you imagine if Poch had 40 players at his disposal on loan during our injury crisis,? All we had to call back on was Josh faacking Onomah!!

Thank God the powers that be have seen sense and put an end to this ridiculous practice.

99% of all clubs in the world report losses almost every financial year though. Take into account financial fair play for European clubs...how do you want them to buy players with money they don't have?

Who`d have thought a club like Chelsea would be at the centre of a ridiculous situation like this.

Good spot. Just read the minutes of the Fifa council on 26th October and it looks like its going through with clubs being given 2 years to get their houses in order. They have still to agree the number of loans in a season, the early discussion being 7 per season. Should be passed at the February council meeting.
