Thoughts from yesterday's game

Huddersfield are the worst team in the PL, but not necessarily the worst defence in the league.

When our passing is played at high tempo, as it was for the first half hour, any team, bar perhaps the very best defensive teams are going to struggle.

Higuain is past his best, but still has excellent instinctive off the ball movement. He sent a well overdue reminder to Chelsea fans what a real instinctive striker looks like. I think he will score plenty of goals agst the lesser teams..................perhaps not agst the top teams.

Hazard is at his most enthusiastic when he has a good striker to play with, and the Higuain partnership has potential to get better.

We have to play at a high tempo for longer periods of a match. Its not possible for 90 minutes, but I would say it needs to be for 60 minutes per match.

Kante is getting better and better in the advanced midfield position. Every time he has a good match the media stay silent, but every time Chelsea lose, they pipe up and clamour for him to play in his old position.

Conclusion:
We only have 39 points to play for and we quite possibly need 28 points (plus not losing to United) to get 4th place. With away games at United, City and Liverpool and a home game agst Spuirs , our margin of error is now very slim, but there are signs from yesterday to still believe that we can finish 4th.

I don't think it's a case of them not taking it seriously but more that they've lost their top stars to the more lucrative T20 leagues.

We are in trouble, Anderson and Broad are nearly done and the batting is a mess. Even though Australia are not in great shape themselves, they will fancy their chances.

I'm sorry guys but I honestly do not see us getting 4th and haven't for months. We have far to many arsenal, spurs and Bournemouth performances yet to come from this team and at the moment and also over the last 10 games United have looked so much better than us.

I'd say it's 50/50 on who finishes higher between us and arsenal but I just cannot see us being consistent enough to get 4th place over United.

I agree

Brummie I know, it's so depressing, the Bournemouth game was the final straw and unforgivable this season for me.

I was at the Spurs and Arsenal games and seeing the result at Bournemouth just made me feel so greatful that I didn't go but what it's also done is put me off making effort for the rest of the season. I don't think it makes me any less of a supporter, I'll still watch the games and go to the games but I'm meant to be going to the city game and it's a 8-10hr round trip and I'll be honest, I can't be bothered with the hassle when the players turn up when they want to.

I trust these players as far as I can throw them

If it's any consolation to you Van Ban, can you imagine what it was like for us in the 70s and 80s travelling to places like Carlisile, Plymouth, M'boro, York and Rotherham and seeing us ship 6 and 7 goals at a time?

It's part n parcel of being a supporter of this great club.

Keep the faith my son and the tide will turn!

Mind you we didn't get bollocked 6 and 7 at Plymouth or Carlisle - it was a long way though!

The race for the top 4 finish will be a dog fight. Not gonna be an easy task, but it can be achieved if Chelsea shows some consistency unlike in the last few months. February fixtures looks daunting, and how they perform this month will probably have a huge effect on Sarri’s tenure at this club. Not paying much attention to the media and pundits, only interested on the performances and if they are good, I am sure the negativity spouted from media will gradually die down.
