Jose sentenced for 1yr

On tax fraud.
But he wont serve any time.

He apparently bored the jury

This tax evasion/fraud annoys the hell out of me. They should serve the time, otherwise what is the point as it’s no deterrent. And yes I would say the same if he was still our manager. Come to think of it, I would definitely say the same if he was still our manager.

Seeing as though they're all being done for the same thing in Spain, someone must have been advising them all?

Lock him up at their expense or leave him free to work and continue paying tax. No brainer really.

I bet his accountants immediately started exhibiting free-flowing, positive auditing as soon as they stopped working with him.

I’d say it is a deterrent if the amount you’re made to cough up is far greater than the taxes you tried to dodge, though I don’t honestly know if that’s been the case or not.

The thing is, as someone else touched upon here, is that all of these people - and there’s been loads of them at Madrid and Barça - were probably offered a range of alternatives their tax advisors told them they could get away with while getting to keep as much of their earnings as possible. In the majority of cases, I doubt they actually realised that what they were doing could be found in court to be a criminal offence.

Afaik, most of the rulings have been based on what the inland revenue and judges deemed to have been an erroneous interpretation of the tax law rather than an out and out intent to commit a crime/felony or whatever it’s called.
