In life I'm an optimist – I always see the positive in a bad situation. Even my wife thinks I'm annoyingly upbeat. So why, when things aren't going well for Leeds, do I start slamming the side, criticising the coach, hating the owners? My only defence is that this team means so much to me that I lose all sense of reason; instead of taking a step back, thinking twice or counting to 10, my impulses often get the better of me. Maybe it's understandable – we're at a more high-stakes, high-pressure level than we've been at for at least 15 years – but after my bitter tirade on certain players and management after Saturday's loss, I've thought on it and finally come to admit that hasty, uncalled-for criticism is not only unconstructive but also a kick in the teeth to all those real fans who pay their cash and get of their arses to follow the team around the country. Leeds Utd has the best fans in football and we should be as proud of them as we are of the team. MOT
