R.I.P Emiliano Sala

My dads friend is a pilot and has actually flown me from Blackbushe airport to Shoreham airport in a similar plane. Anyway he knows a lot of pilots in the community who knew David Ibottson. Not only had he not flown for ages and shouldn't have flown that plane over the channel but he was also a daytime pilot not trained on using the dials and readings to navigate through darkness and bad weather.

But why is there barely a mention of the pilot? Two people were on the plane, not just the footballer.

Yeah agree, regardless of any wrong doing the tragedy has happened and 2 people were on that plane not just one.

I think mainly because technically the pilot is not confirmed as dead. Only Sala has been found so far.

But I do also think the ‘fame’ aspect plays a part...

TBH I've seen the both mentioned a lot.

Yeah, I agree, I've seen him mentioned quite a bit and as someone says, the news bit of this story is one body was recovered and that was the poor lad. As for the pilot, it's another terrible tragedy but I would be more than a little upset if, in good faith, my son hired a pilot without a full commercial licence, without proper training in night flying / inability to use some of the systems in a 35 year old plane he was not familiar with and that gained its air worthiness licence 4 years earlier.

You'd think in this day and age every plane would have some tracking system fitted which would help locate it if things go wrong
I'm no expert in this field but it baffles me why a plane goes missing between France and England an it can't be located

The plane went of radar which meant for whatever reason the tracker failed, which is why there was such a big search area.

Planes that lose radar contact the second they smash into the sea are usually found quickly.

My cousins an experienced pilot. Spoke to him the other day and we discussed it.
To fly at night time, in the winter with a single engined plane over that part of the channel was asking for trouble and almost a “suicide” mission.
