Kind of shows us how much we benefit from Champions League participation. Basically Dembele made up for CL money which is what we all pretty much thought at the time. We've got a decent chunk of cash on hand as a safety net which is great but if we want CL money next year we'll need to invest a decent bit in the team, particularly the defence.
That leaves us with a bit of a catch 22 because we don't have that one player that we can potentially sell for £15m+ anymore if we don't get CL. Tierney is maybe the only one? And none of our players are going to demand that fee without performing at CL level.
We are undoubtedly in a strong position off the field at the moment. So, do we invest in improving the team and lose the safety net of cash in the bank, hoping to do as much as possible to reach the CL for the cash? Or do we keep the money to cover not making it so we don't go into debt or have to sell players?
It'll be difficult to make the CL either way so I don't really see us changing too much from the play it safe mentality and waiting to see where the chips fall before making any big signings, which is probably smart. But seen as we've quite a few loans right now and some contracts up in the summer could this be the time to be a bit more bold? As we've seen before, the longer you are out of the CL the harder it is to get back there.
This summer is looking like it could be a big one for us.

he has got away with a few this year.
it does need a review, just the timing of it from rangers with the recent run of penalties makes it look dafter than it is.

i get hamish point tbh, keepers are overly protected and are able to do what they like imo.
that said, i dont believe any of the incidents this season with mcgregor have had anything to do with him protecting himself. just daftie behaviour
