Signings needed to challenge..

Probably too soon for abit of football manager and will get some sh*t for this but I think this team would be enough to challenge on all fronts next season..

De gea

Wan bissaka
Koulibaly
Lindelof
Shaw

Pogba
Rice
Ndombele

Sancho
Rashford
Martial

Bench

Greenwood
Lingard
Chong
Herrera
Matic
Bailly
Dalot

5 signings too much to expect and cost ALOT but then we'd challenge and have depth, cheaper option to sancho would be Pepe, possibly only sign one centre mid too but if we want to challenge we need to go out and get atleast 3/4 deals done and dusted..

Hard to say which positions are key as there's a lot needs addressing, not just in the 11 but the squad.

We need a new RB, possibly a LB. We need a top CB.

We need a top DM and a ball player.

We need a RW.

I'm the squad we need a striker, a CM replacement for Pog and a LB (if Shaw is first choice)

Lots to be done

Keep shaw as back up, but buy a left back who can go forward properly.

RW. CM.

Yeah Dalot just needs to play now.

I look at other clubs, Dortmund for example and they're giving chances to a really good young full-back in Hakimi and they're letting him make mistakes.

This is what we need to start doing with some of our younger players who can maybe offer more quality than some of the senior players.

Yes they'll make mistakes but we could reap the rewards in the long run.

Don't let Scholay see this. You mad radical.

He won’t care. I doubt Oldham could afford Dalot.

I think people are conflating what 'we need' with what 'they'd like' here.

We've got a strong squad. It needs work; but as Ole has demonstrated already, the best way to improve your players' performances is to find a plan that both suits your players and works, fill your players with confidence, and prepare them properly.

And as Ole has said, if we can squeeze even an additional 5% or 10% out of those players who we know underperformed under Mourinho, the difference will be huge.

Matic, Shaw, Herrera Pogba, Rashford and Martial are playing at a completely different level. And there's no reason to believe that any of those players are at their peaks under a more progressive approach (in fact, it'd be strange to believe that given that they've only been training under the new leadership a couple of months).

If Ole/whoever becomes permanent boss and the coaching staff can continue to improve cohesion and productivity on the pitch, squeeze the most out of the more seasoned players who fit - Pogba, Herrera, Lingard, Shaw - and develop the youngsters we'll have - Rashford, Martial, Dalot, TFM, Tuanzebe, Bailly, Lindelof, Chong and whoever else might step up - then for me, we've got a solid foundation.

Then we need to look firstly (and very clearly and carefully) at bringing the *right* players in to fill out areas in the squad lacking strength in depth and players with the qualities we want to see given how we're going to play.

For me, those are, in order of importance, CF, CB... RW, LB.

I've left out CM and pushed RW down the list of priorities because we've got bags of young talent I want to see blooded across those areas, as well as Fred, McT and Pereira, none of whom we've seen enough of to give in on.

What we need is a matter of what the goals are for ghe coming season, though. Because to become a team that can challenge the elite there’s so much we need to do to the squad. If we were taking a more considered, and longer term, approach towards building a compeitive side then the issues in certain playing positions lessen in terms of importance.

And you'd hope (in vain, no doubt) that having seen all we've seen over the last four and a half seasons, that we would see a considered and careful long-term plan and the club look to build sensibly rather than smash £250m on three or four more big names.

You know as well as I do that won’t happen. Though what’s interesting is that you could actually take a longer term approach, signing the most sought after young talent in football, and end up spending that sort of money on three or four players.
