Police confiscate alcohol from supporters

I read that the police stopped a bus at the weekend carrying Ayr Utd fans to their game against Morton. They pulled the bus over and confiscated all the alcohol from the fans.

I think this is a complete and utter joke. These fans were not causing any problems and were just enjoying a drink on the way to a game. They have no real history of football trouble so why would the police take time out of their busy schedule to do this?? it baffles me. With all the cuts to the force surely this was a waste of time for them when they could be spending time on fighting real crime.

I remember going to Old trafford once and I had my granddad's hip flask full of rum in it. The security took it off me at the gate and said I could get it back after the game, When i went to get it after the game they said they didn't know what I was talking about and pushed me out the ground. I was furious. My granddad had given that to my dad who then handed it down to me.

In football grounds abroad you can drink beer watching the game yet in the UK we have so many daft rules. For some category A games they don't even sell alcohol in the stadium before the game or at half time.

They play some local games at 12:30pm due to them not wanting fans to drink to much before the game as it may cause violence. All this does is make the fans drink earlier and probably topping up the booze from the night before. Plus they will be drinking all day after the game which would probably pose a bigger problem for local towns and pubs.

Are our drinking laws daft? or correct?

Ridiculous behaviour from the police on this occasion but in general, you cannot blame anyone for banning alcohol at football.

For some reason, many football fans feel that a football match is an opportunity to behave like a moronic hooligan, hurling abuse if not actually behaving violently. Until that changes, it's understandable to remove alcohol from the equation.

Fine. Then do it across the UK.

Do what?
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Ban alcohol at football.

But you knew that.

No, I didn't. You seem to be asking me to justify something I've not asked for.

But there already is a ban, isn't there.

What?

I’m not asking you for anything nor any justification.

But no, alcohol isn’t banned at English grounds for example.

It's banned in the stands and during the game, to my knowledge.

For context, I was responding to this part of the article:

"In football grounds abroad you can drink beer watching the game yet in the UK we have so many daft rules. For some category A games they don't even sell alcohol in the stadium before the game or at half time."

I fully understand why they have these rules in place, is what I was saying.
