Emery any doubters

Let’s assess Unai Emery upto now anyone thinks we made the right choice or we could do better with any other manager or perhaps Arteta or Simeone.

Or fear not we get Arsene back maybe he will bring Ozil back from detention and we will play tiki taka with no defenders on sight.

Crazy but Unai has not convinced yet with signings or the way we play let’s be honest it’s functional football using overlapping full backs.

It would be weird not to have doubts, but this season was always likely to be a stabilising one rather than a big leap forward.

The Ozil and Ramsey situations have been a massive cloud over the club this season. With our small squad it is hard to get through a season with two attacking players the manager doesn't trust.

Injuries and an ever changing defence has meant no consistency at the back. Again, a lack of trust in the defenders avaialable has led to playing 3 at the back and/or 3 midfielders to cover the weaknesses.

Auba and Laca together hasn't worked brilliantly, although they are both having good individual seasons.

This summer will be very interesting, a lot of players will be leaving and a lot are needed. Next season will be when we should expect to see improvements and if they don't come then you can really start questioning Emery.

Far from convinced by him but want to give him time regardless really. As long as he gets top 6 this season then back him in the transfer window and judge him on next season.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
sonfds spends years bashing Wenger for top four finish, now happy with 6th. Truly pathetic
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Not happy with it, but wouldn't consider it a sackable offence.

Another double moralist.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It is right to adjust ambition short term when you replace a manager who has been at the club for over 20 years and built the squad to his desires.

Replacing Wenger was more than just replacing a manager the whole structure has changed, mentalities have to change, wage bills have to be repaired etc.
Of course you are going to have 'double moralities' if you are a fair person.

Fail to qualify on Thursday then he should be sacked

Not convinced but it was always going to be difficult replacing Wenger after 22 years. Unless our form goes off a cliff then he deserves next season and to bring in more of his own players. His personality is a bit dour. I don't think he's an elite manager but with where we were and our transfer budget we wouldn't be able to attract an elite manager.

I agree, I don't think we would have been able to get an elite manager, especially with our limited finances (rumours are that some turned down the job once they found out our budget).
Having said that, I think we could have done better. Jardim and Favre are just two examples. They are not perfect, far from it but at least they are known for playing positive football and are keen on developping youngsters which would have help with our finance.
I really blame Gazidis for not doing any due diligence when appointing Emery because there is nothing of what we currently see at Arsenal which hasn't happened in his previous clubs.

He goes out injured and in come Kos and we look even more clueless at the back. IMO Kos is a faking chit captain and is way past it.

Just utter garbage you are writing here.

Koscielny came back into a weakened defence with numerous other injuries and has been pretty excellent overall, he looks as quick and sharp as he ever has done, maybe you should watch the rehabilitation documentary on Arsenal.com. Remember how long he has been out for as well? He was injured shortly before the World Cup for f()cks sake.

Mustafi is a far inferior player both defensively and when he's on the ball, if i have to watch him play another useless long ball to nobody gifting possession away like he does 10x every game i don't know how much longer i can cope.

Holding had been our best defender up until he got injured so i hope to see him paired with Koscielny + a new CB when he returns.

Was watching Liverpool yesterday and somethings really jumped out at me. First of all, there is no player on that team that is really a "super star". Secondly, they are a well coached both mentally and tactically. Most of all they played against one of the best teams in the world and looked like they expected to win, even though they didn't!

They had players who were energetic and aggressive who tackled hard and were always moving on and off the ball. Finally their manager, who some regard as a clown, was very "into" the game from the sidelines, and his energy and confidence has translated into the team.

Then I thought of Arsenal with their slow paced, timid performances week after week, and a manager on the sidelines who just appears as though he wishes he was somewhere else!

Major overhaul is needed in ownership, scouting, coaching and manger talent, as well as to the the on-field product is badly needed, before things get much better.

Don't disagree - but Klopp's Liverpool was pretty average and inconsistent until he had time to mould it into his image. We should give Emery the same chance.

This is all good and very noble, at least on paper but I don't think you can compare both.
First of all, Klopp only arrived in October so he didn't have a full pre-season with the players and didn't beneficiate from the summer transfer window.
And although some results were poor, you could see what he was trying to achieve. In his first full season, he finished 4th.
But I think the biggest difference for me is that Klopp had shown he can take a team forward. He won the league twice with Dortmund beating a financially superior team. So Liverpool fans had something to hang on to. Same with Pep at City.

In Emery's case, lots of us still struggling to see what he is trying to implement. The lack of style so far, bearing in mind he had a full preseason is still worrying.
And then comes his record in the leagues. His only league title was at PSG where he had probably the most expensive squad ever put together and that was in his second attempt. He failed badly in his first season to Monaco. Let's not even mention his CL record.
I'd have been more than happy to give him time if he had won the league with a team like Lyon, Marseille or Sevilla/Valencia while he was in Spain.
But at the moment, I fear most of our hopes are hanging on absolutely nothing.
