Derby County 0 - 1 Millwall

Weird to think that we've played more games than any other team in the FL and EPL this season. Which could be good or bad but to do it with only two recognised centre halves is well praiseworthy.

FA Cup v Brighton brought out all the bad habits associated recently with Derby and the frustration was plain to see. Still, we have a couple of games in hand and are still there or thereabouts.

Owe Ashley looks set for a start as does George Evans. Marriot should be available but is he match fit? Do we play King and Huddz together?

Millwall are one of those 'non- footballing' sides of which we have had problems with this season. Unless we are more thoughtful in our approach, this may turn out to be a frustrating foray on a Wednesday night.

Be patient (?)

Team news when it's in.

Dreadful performance. We may have dominated midfield possession but there was no drive or desire to make anything happen. Movement off the ball was awful. I couldn’t figure out what we were actually trying to do. Often a period of controlled play ended up with a speculative cross into the box which was always going to play into Millwall’s hands. Neither Marriott nor Wagstaff moved around or dropped deep to try to receive the ball or to create a space for a midfield runner to move into. Surely with big centre halves we needed to pass it quickly to feet. When there was space for a player to drive into he invariably dithered before giving up the idea altogether and passing it sideways. Where were the options for the man on the ball?

I agree Lampard has struggled to get players regularly starting together to form partnerships and connections. Most of this isn’t his fault with injuries but they look as though they have never met or trained together. Personnel changing shouldn’t have such a drastic effect if there is a pattern of play which they all understand.

I agree about running off the ball Vidal. This is what Leeds do so well this season. They always have a man available, something we haven't had since the departure of Hughes.

My memory is not what it was, but aren't we just revisiting a familiar problem from over the last 5 years, which Rowett tried to subvert by bypassing midfield ?
I feel for Frank for not being able to overcome it. He now finds himself in a position common with several previous incumbents

Myyabe this manager malarkey isn't quite as easy as Ole Gunnar Solskjær makes it look?

Marriott is the kind of striker who likes the loose ball in the box which he can run on to. We didn't put the ball in the box enough. Waghorn is the kind of striker, sorry I'll rephrase that, Waghorn isn't a striker, or midfielder, or a wide player, or any thing else which is useful to the team. Another is the list of expensive mistakes.

Still undecided about him then, Spart ?

My opinion is only based on seeing him play. His first touch is on a par with Conor Sammon's. His passing is Bradley Johnsonesque. He does have a chunky physique but that is more suited to Rugby League.
