Spurs look to be a real Champions

League team now. Able to grind out results home and away against the very best. The win over Borussia Dortmund looks to have put Spurs with one foot into the last eight of the CL, probably along with Man City, they will be England`s only representatives in the latter stages, not bad for a team that has not spent a penny and has no home ground yet.

Probability of progression for this round of the CL for all of the four British representatives

Man City 100%
Spurs 90%
Liverpool 10%
Man United 1%

Putting a bit of meat on the bones of those assessments. Man City have a very easy draw, as they have had in every cup competition this season. They have had it very, very easy. Spurs take a 3-0 lead to Germany, a lead that has only been overturned five times in CL history, so more than probable they will also be in the last eight. Of the other two neither will in my opinion progress, Liverpool are next to useless on the road in CL football, having lost their previous five away ties, cannot make a case for them progressing at all. If say it was Spurs going out to Germany with a 0-0 first leg score, then you could say they may have a chance, having ground out results at Barca, Real, Juventus in the past 18 months, but Liverpool have been shocking away from Anfield in the CL for a while now. Man United have no chance of overturning their 2-0 home defeat.

So looks like just two British representatives in the last eight of the CL this season.

Spurs should go through. City should too, at an absolute canter.

Liverpool is too close to call. They only need to score once and Bayern are really up against it, and Liverpool can score against anyone.

United, you would think, are fecked.

Liverpool have a chance sandy mate. That clean sheet could prove vital because all they need is a score draw to go through or a 0-0 again to take it to extra time. Not over by a long shot.

Well going by their last five away games in Europe, I would say they are no better than 5 or 10 per cent. Bayern are a serious player on the European stage not some mickey mouse team, you can count on one hand how many times they have lost or even drawn at home in Europe.

1% for Man Utd . A bit generous there. They have 0% chance

Giving Liverpool a 10% of progression is silly. They have been poor on the road in the CL this season but they were quite average in the group last season and kicked on after that.

I’d give them a 40-45% chance of going through especially as VVD will be back. They are very capable of getting a result at the Allianz

You can't just go on their group form this season. Look how our form in Europe in 2016-17 compared to our form in the league. Lost 2 games at home to Monaco and Leverkusen, and only drew to Gent in the Europa. In the league - 86 points and unbeaten all season at home.

As Palmers said the real important games are the KO ones. Clearly Liverpool are a good enough team to get a draw at Bayern.

i dont really get how VVD would make a difference in this case? they already kept a clean sheet at home without him

Bayern are a formidable team on their own patch, so even disgarding Liverpool`s form on the road, what makes you think they will beat Bayern. Bayern are not a pub team, they are one of the greats of European footie, and are extremely hard to beat on their own patch. Liverpool had the chance at Anfield to give themselves a chance, and they didn`t take it. I fancy Bayern big time now. They certainly have nowhere near a 50/50 chance.
