We've Got Rennes FC Away First.

Yep, according to the beeb we are away to the French team Rennes FC, who currently sit 11th in league 1 but in my opinion will prove to be a sterner test despite our less than convincing win against Bate Borisov.

The first game is on the 7th March, which right after we've played Tottenham away and before we play UTD at home. The second game which we are at home is on the 14th, which is after we've played UTD at home and then we come home to face Newcastle.

2nd March Tottenham vs Arsenal
7th March. Rennes vs Arsenal
10th March Arsenal vs UTD
14th March Rennes vs Arsenal
1st May Arsenal vs Newcastle

From what I know about them, they have a very effective attacking line of Hatem Ben Arfa, IsmaΓ―la Sarr and M'Baye Niang. All three of which we have been linked with in previous transfer windows. However, judging by the aggregate scores in their last round and their league position they must have a dodgy defence and as a consequence they are also prone to conceding goals. What do peeps think?

Note:
I have revise this article because the fixtures were also revised on the Beeb website.

Article 23 Confirmation of fixtures and automatic reversals
23.01 The venues, dates (in accordance with the calendar in Annex C) and kick-off times
for all qualifying matches except those in the preliminary round are fixed by the
home clubs and must be confirmed to the UEFA administration in writing by their
respective associations by the deadline set by the UEFA administration. The UEFA
administration may alter or confirm dates and kick-off times in accordance with
the principles set by the Club Competitions Committee.
23.02 The UEFA administration decides on match dates and fixture reversals on a caseby-case basis and in accordance with the principles set by the Club Competitions
Committee. The UEFA administration reserves the right to impose a match date in
the event of clashes between matches in this competition and other UEFA club
competition matches.
26 III – Match Scheduling
23.03 If more than one club from the same city, or within a radius of 50km (31 miles) of
each other, is taking part in any of the UEFA club competitions and/or plays in the
same stadium, and if the association and the clubs concerned explicitly declare
when entering the clubs that their matches cannot be played on the same day or
on consecutive days, the UEFA administration may alter or confirm dates and kickoff times in accordance with the principles set by the Club Competitions
Committee.

Call me Mr Thicky but why was it ok for A and C to play at home yesterday but not in the next round?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Originally they tried to make us play at 5pm on Wednesday.
Arsenal and the AST complained about this time, so they moved it to Thursday 5.55pm.
Not sure why this happened rather than a venue reversal, but there was a lot of pressure on UEFA not to have the same issue this time.

The home/away advantage doesn't really have much statistical basis beyond the first KO round (where group winners play away first leg but tend to be the better teams). The team who win the first leg tend to go through (our win yesterday went against the trend), so home advantage in the first leg would seem to be an advantage.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Cheers, to the best of my knowledge its not happened to Spurs so I had no idea that they did that.

It has. Just surprising that it has only been confirmed today rather than last week, after the game.

Wonder if Mr Emery will go with Laca for the PL and Auba for EL. Personally think the 2 together hasn't worked out with the players we have available and we need that extra one behind (Ozil)

Yeah, no point of risking both until really necessary.

Would also give us something off the bench (in the PL games).

We were initially due to play Wolves away on 17th March but as they are still in the FA cup this fixture will be rescheduled. Probably won't be till like late April/early May. Means we will play 5 of our 7 remaining league games away from home
