Spurs targets for the season now

Top Four

Champions League Final

Derail Liverpool`s title bid.

The last month has seen a downturn in Spurs fortunes, some down to injuries, some down to really poor team selections by the management, some done to players off form. Anyway a combination of all three have led to the current situation.

Looking at the league first, form has been poor all season really, but ground out results, fortunately got a nice cushion over our other top four rivals, and now with the gap decreasing will have to hope form and results pick up to see Spurs get over the line for the top four spot. At least over the past two weeks, two of the big games Spurs had to play are now out of the way. Others still have tricky games to play so the three or four point cushion with a better goal average may still be enough.

Looking at the CL, this seems to be the competition that Spurs seem to have played the better stuff in, although only sneaking through the group, they should have got through comfortably but for the late goals conceded in Milan and at PSV, but do seem to have grown into the competition, as shown by the Dortmund result. Bit of a free hit really for Spurs, a cup competition anything could happen, so who knows. I fully expect Spurs to progress past Dortmund, as they themselves are not in the best of form, and may have one eye on the winning of the domestic league rather than the CL, now that Bayern are hot on their heels. So they may not even go full strength, knowing that it would take an enormous effort to pull back the three goal deficit.

Of the last point, wouldn`t it be great to go to Anfield and absolutely scupper their title bid, not in great form, but you never know, a result up their would not only boost Spurs, but completely scupper Liverpool. How cruel would that be.

I am looking forward to midweek in Germany, but wouldn`t surprise me if the manager starts with a midfield of Skipp and Rose. God only knows what team Poch is going to select. I doubt he does either, we know it will be all change at the back yet again. As bad as our defence was yesterday, I would not be adverse to him just playing the same players for once, The back four has not once been unchanged for the whole of the season, something seriously wrong there.

Anyway here goes, it will be a roller-coast couple of weeks again. COYS

So going from being PL champions you are now hanging on for a top 4 spot in a matter of a week and the only thing which will SOS is stopping us.

Very Spursy

Going for the big one mate, the CL, far outdoes winning the Prem. Man City can have that.

Who, from the Spurs supporters said we were going to be PL champions ?? even the stupid media said it was an outside chance for all of about 2 days. As for stopping you, every one outside Liverpool wants that. You just ain't liked by anyone mate. Partly because of pointless posts like this one.
Think you will find most realistic supporters are happy with our league position given funding, the stadium, injuries, other club favoritism etc.

I must admit Steve, I thought Spurs should have been making a title challenge, so a bit disappointed with the form since the New Year. Poor team selections, managerial tactics and injuries have ruined the challenge.

Well we need to target bringing in a new manager of course.

Spurs should go all out to win the CL. They've got every chance.

Will definitely make the next stage and then they should prioritise the CL as the one to concentrate on for the rest of the season. May not have a better chance.
Everyone bangs on about wanting to finish top 4 and get into the CL and then not seem to focus on it when they are in it.
I genuinely think Spurs can do it this year.

Not a chance mate. We are the biggest bunch of bottle jobs ever and you need bottle to win the CL. Spurs don’t have the mentality or the bottle to go all the way. I think we will get through and being in the quarter finals will be incredibly exciting, but that’s about as far as we will go. I’m pretty certain we will get knocked out the next stage.

I am of the same opinion that we can do well in the CL. Knowing our luck we'll get drawn PSG next though.

Hopefully we shouldn't have to concentrate on one to the point that the other will suffer. We should be able to balance both with good teams. It's not like we're going for the title and CL anymore.

Nah not a chance Spurtle, don’t do it to yourself mate as you will only be let down by Spurs. Next stage is as far as we will go mate.

Don, it's not that unrealistic if Liverpool managed to reach a final last season. If we can beat Real Madrid last season, and give the best team in Germany a beating, then the sky is the limit for us in the competition, which I believe was going to be easier for us to win than a league title anyway.

I'm not saying we're going to win it but I think it's fine to be optimistic.

Spurtle, problem is Spurs don’t deliver when it matters mate. I can see us getting through this tie and actually getting a favourable game in the next round ( Roma ) , but then getting knocked out when you expect us to win over the 2 legs, it’s just what Spurs do mate. We just don’t have the bottle to go far mate unfortunately.

I don't think we're going to take any game lightly, Don. This is our last chance of winning anything this season and the players will be desperate to. We hopefully will have learnt from last season in the competition, as Vert says.

It's going to be tough so we need a bit of luck and belief as all teams do. Plenty of teams worse than ours have won the CL so it's not unwinnable for us.

As a 50 year old Spurs fan, I'm experienced enough to know that come Thursday morning I'll be reading this forum with other supporters from other clubs telling us how very Spursy. It's the predictability that angers me most.
