The end of the dinosaurs

What has happened to those British managerial dinosaurs Pullis, Pardew, Hughes, Big Sam, Moyes and 'Arry Redknapp? Could even throw Holloway, Steve Bruce and Phil Brown into the mix as well.

They are all linked by their nationality, lack of humility and massive egos and failure to rise above their status as the easy fix option at various mid table to relegated threatened clubs (West Ham usually).

Is this fair and why have they all disappeared into obscurity? Is it because their relative lack of talent has been found out or are they simply misunderstood and don't get the big jobs (Big Sam and Moyes aside) because they are old school, unfashionable and don't have fancy foreign names?

Admins - multi-board huh?

People diss big Sam but he’s always gotten the job done.

If Fulham had went for him over Ranieri they wouldn’t be in the mess they are now you can be sure of it.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Big Sam would be a force of nature with a bruiser like Mitrovic leading his line.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Outdated 1980-1990s style doesn't work at the top level any more in my view. Big Sam is more suited to the lower leagues but his ego and salary demands stop that from happening. Plus more forward thinking clubs will know that he is a short term fix and won't progress and build a club like say Eddie Howe or Chris Hughton.

Sam would save Fulham and then mess them up the following season.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
So all the fancy foreigners are only good when managing top clubs then?

What like Bielsa at Leeds or Poch at Southampton to name 2 off the top of my head

I'll counter that with Fergie and Paisley and Clough

And what has Bielsa won at Leeds, same with Poch at Saints?

Which was a long tiem ago. Only Fergie managed to change his style to suit different eras. Anyway, I'm not slagging off British, UK managers as Howe and Hughton for example are doing great, I'm just saying that some of the old school ones were over rated and their level was Stoke, Bolton and the like

Don't mind the 'Ammers tbh. The Boleyn was a great place to watch football back in the day. Had some great flair players as well

Dyche got Burnley to 7th last season and Hughton looks like keeping Brighton in the prem again. These types are still around and always will be. Though the managers listed are all quite different anyway.

Didn't do too well at Newcastle but yeah agree I guess. Bit of a 1 trick pony though in that he'll galvanise the club, motivate the players and save you from relegation and then the following season when he is given money to spend and can build he'll mess up by buying the wrong players or not adapting his playing style.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Wasn’t great at Newcastle but two other managers have relegated them since which puts it into perspective.

Did a good job long term at Bolton although it was some time ago.

He may not adapt his style but how many clubs have went backwards after sacking him?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Most of the clubs Allardyce has been at have struggled in the 12-18 months after he leaves.

Notts County were relegated not long after he left them top of the league, Bolton went down, so did Blackburn, Sunderland and Newcastle.

WHU needed Moyes to come in and save them from the drop after Billic’s awful (second?) season. He’s a top coach tbf, it’s his style of football which grates on fans.

Bielsa has only been at Leeds for 7 months and has spent 10 million quid. Pretty good considering we'd won just 3 games in 2018 before he turned up and 8 of the starting 11 are of that same crap side.

Not sure how that can be seen as a positive in his favour. Surely a Manager should look at not only a short-term fix i.e. saving a club from the drop but also long-term. As you say, after Big Sam has gone several of his ex clubs struggle which suggests that he has no long term plan.

Moyes may be a good coach but his record hasn't been that great since he left everton and he is currently out of work. surely if he was that good then clubs would want him?
