Thomas Tuchel and the penalty

PSG manager Thomas Tuchel said the penalty should not have been given because Dalot's shot was not on target.

"From my point of view I watched Dalot take the shot. I saw the ball flying straight from his foot and for me it was clear it was going way over the bar," said Tuchel.

"There are many things to discuss before taking the decision and I think it's a 50-50 decision. What makes it super hard is I had the clear feeling the shot was not on target, and to get rewarded with a penalty, there is no logic."

---------------------------

What a strange argument to explain why it shouldn't have been a penalty.

I thought the decision could have gone either way. When I saw it first I thought it was very harsh, however I instantly knew it would be given when the VAR came into play.

Nothing will change - UEFA will back their referee and everyone will consider it a job well done. Clowns.

Because in your scenario you're blaming the player for doing something that everyone knows should not be part of the decision re: handball.

------------------

But it should be part of the decision, because we see that the referees interpret it differently. I'm not saying the ref's interpretation is right but you need to factor that in. Apparently the players were briefed about it this season.

It should only be part of the decision if that is part of the rule. It's not.

If any and all contact between the ball and arm should be penalised, would you be okay with players deliberately kicking the ball into the arm of the opposition to win free-kicks/penalties?
----------------------------------------------------------------------

That doesn't concern me, but it would worry me about the severity of the punishment.

The ball hits you on the arm when it's going out for a corner so the other team get a free hit at goal from 12 yards? Unfair, surely.

It should be part of the decision if that is part of the referees interpretation of the rule. And we can see that the way the rule was enforced last night, that it should be.

The wording of the rule is not right and that is why the law-makers are changing it. But the players are briefed on how referees are interpreting the rule at that time.

But referees shouldn't be using it as part of their interpretation. If they do so, they're wrong.

What a complete mess!

But they are and players need to adjust to it, otherwise decisions like last night happen. That's what I'm trying to tell you. I don't think the refs interpretation is right either. It needs tweaking.

Well if they are then they're doing the wrong thing - it's not in the rules.

Any team would take that decision in a blink of an eye but only an idiot could say it's a justified pen.
As Clattenburg said, it's never a pen in the prem, and in real time there is nothing the player can do.
There would be 5-10 a game and it'd be easier to simply blast shots at defenders than aim for the goal, in most instances, if that's deemed sticking an arm out

Rather a UK team thru than a French one though tbh and after seeing PSGs showboating at Old Trafford and them fall over like paper all game against Liverpool this year, I'm glad they are out.

If you can't be good be lucky. Man u were the inferior team by some margin but PSG were far to arrogant.
