Scotland’s new number 1?
I imagine Craig Gordon and David Marshall will have something to say about that.
Allan McGregor retiring is a blow for Scotland but it’s not unexpected, he’s 38 this year and will want to play for another year or two at club level so he’ll be wanting to use the international breaks to wind down.
A lot of chat on social media about his part in V-gate and that he should never have been back in the first place, truth is Scotland can’t turn down players of his calibre for something as petty as that.
It does beg the question now though, who will be in goals for Scotland? Scott Bain has done unbelievably well at Celtic since the turn of the year, he’s conceded just 2 goals domestically in 12 games, 5 goals in 14 games in total. He’s comfortable with the ball at his feet and my only gripe is he doesn’t command his box well enough for crosses.
Craig Gordon isn’t getting a chance at Celtic and will likely leave in the summer. For McLeish to put him in would be a risk given his lack of game time.
The other is David Marshall who is playing regularly at Hull City, he might just be the one to get the nod with Bain as back up.
Squad announced later today and I expect Burke, McGregor, KT, Forrest, Bain and Gordon to be called up from Celtic.

Scott Bain is pash. Pure pash.
Dropped at Dundee. Couldn't get a game for Hibs.
A dozen games for Celtic and he's Scotland #1 now?
Out of curiosity, how many match winning saves has he made? How often has he saved the day for Celtic, as he'll be expected to do for a poor Scotland team?
I do not approve of his elevation to the Scotland starting jersey.

His performance against Valencia away showed he can perform to a very high standard.
His save against Hearts 2 weeks ago was world class.

No it wasn't. Not that I saw it, but I expect it was one of those where he had to make a great save because his positioning was dreadful, or something like that.

Funny how Maldini gets praised for rarely making a tackle but Bain gets criticised for hardly making any saves.
He's a superb organiser of a defence (even with donkeys in front of him) and brings a calm assurance to the centre-halves. When he has to make a save, he usually does.
If he was a couple of inches taller, I'd gladly have him as Celtic goalie for the next 5 years.
