It's difficult following your team from afar. Timezones are a pain, you're cut off from the normal gossip and team news and while on holiday you're never really sure what day it is anyway.

And then you have the crushing disappointments of your team being scheidt, so you just stop paying close attention anyway because you don't want it to spoil your holiday at any point.

So while I was away United crashed out the Scottish Cup after what I believe was a dreadful performance at home to ICT, then we managed to get beat by the worst team in the league Partick Thistle to fall further behind Ross County, who as expected and predicted at the start of the season will now run away with the title.

We do however find ourselves in second place now that the Ayr collapse has happened. It is essential that we secure this place and yet my confidence in us doing so isn't great, such is our inability to score goals from open play. I'm actually struggling to think of a goal we've scored from open play since we appointed a designated attacking coach, Lee McCulloch. Is agent McCulloch a Rangers plant? Probably not, but I'd like someone to blame and I don't particularly like him, so he's my target.

The other target of course would be Robbie Neilson. It's now his team. I'm concerned with him. He isn't getting them going and his shape isn't working. We need better and he needs to get more out of his players.

As I say, second place is essential so that we can fulfil our destiny of a play-off final fixture against Dundee, which will undoubtedly leave me a nervous wreck and increase the number of grey hairs I have. Robbie, don't let me down. A play-off final place is the minimum expectation.

More importantly, my holiday was terrific and Patagonia is absolutely stunning. Don't visit Buenos Aires in February though - it's far too hot and the humidity is overwhelming. Go in Spring or Autumn.
