LVG

Confirms retirement.
Some (most) of his football could be classed as dire in his time with us, but his interviews and pressers could provide comedy gold.

Found this on the BBC. Enjoy your retirement you crazy man.

Good luck to LvG

Last of the old school or first of the new school?

Anyway, I do have a soft spot for him but not because of what he did at United, more for what he did at Ajax in the mid-90s.

The 1995 CL Final between Ajax and AC Milan was the first European final I remember watching and I knew the Milan players due to Gazzetta Football Italia and the Ajax players from the USA ‘94.

I knew Milan were a top side and couldn’t believe this team of former academy players beat the mighty Milan, they also took Juve to penalties the following year.

I’ve also had a soft spot for Ajax ever since.

Tbh I liked Lvg as he respected the club and did his best just his best was no longer good enough but Jose did not respect the fans or the club or it’s history and that’s not acceptable. Lvg was too late in his career with us but he got us an fa cup that we did not win for years which is not too bad.

The LVG revisionism is one of the worst things about this site. It's as bad as Rob's defence as Mourinho.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It's really quite mystifying.

I don't think so. We can all agree the football wasn't great to watch for the best part, but for very different reasons to Mourinho.

With the right additions that could have been a successful side imo.

On top of that, LVG wasn't a complete bell like Jose.

We don't all agree though. There's comments from multiple posters here explicitly or implicitly saying otherwise. Even YOU have made comments somewhat contrary to your opening sentence of this comment

In hindsight it's a great shame we didn't back him and leave Jose on the shelf. With the players we signed for Jose I think LVG could have really kicked on

...

Even your comment likens him to SAF! Of course he doesn't have to be critiqued for his time at United every time he's mentioned, but the way you talk about him is ignoring his awful football with us. You're glorifying him with no caveats.

Others post positive comments about him and acknowledge the truly boring football he had the team play, so it is possible. It does not have to be a binary discussion. He did some good things for us but mostly sheite.

You've been a staunch LVG backer and fought relentlessly with Robb, but not often involved in the revisionism. There are others on this site that have come out with the most stunningly mystifying posts about LVG on many threads.

Arab misses him every day! I literally LOLed when I read that. It is INSANE!

If you cannot see any revisionism in some of these comments then I suggest you're part of the revisionism.
