Ronaldo is no fool

The history books will show Ronaldo to be the greater player than Messi IMO and it has been almost perfectly worked by Ronaldo.

He's already achieved an international medal and 3 consecutive CL. By moving to Italy, the history books will show him to be the player that won trophies in Span, England, and Italy, and if he wins the CL with Juve, that will be the end of it.

You can't argue with 4 consecutive CL.

Messi will go down as a great Ronaldinho type player, but the cold hard text will tell your grandson a different story.

Maradona's two claims to greatness are dragging Napoli to winning Serie A twice, and Argentina to winning the World Cup once.
In every other way, Messi and Ronaldo are better than him.
----------------------
something messi/Ronaldo have never done, most if not all titles/cups they have won have been with teams that have been pretty much favourites to win, you've seen what messi has been able to accomplish with argentina when he doesn't have the fallback of his barce team mates, at least Ronaldo to an extent can point to the euros
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Argentina have often been woefully mismanaged, such as by Maradona himself. There's also the issue that Messi is a great player, but not a great captain; Argentina would have benefited from someone else taking this responsibility. Argentina have also been an unbalanced team in the last ten years, with a glut of incredible attacking players and not a huge amount else. Just because someone doesn't win a World Cup of the Euros, it doesn't mean they're a poor player. Does anyone berate Bergkamp for not winning anything at international level? No.

Different eras, if Messi was playing in the mud 80's he'd have spent plenty of time on the treatment table because he would have been brutalised

Watch some footage of Maradona and the assaults he regularly faced on a football field

The modern game is geared up for attacking players to flourish with the virtual non contact policy in place now

Messi is tougher than he looks. He's got the low centre of gravity like Maradona, even if he isn't quite so stocky.

Would Maradona have got away with everything he did in the 1980s today? Would his professionalism have made him more a Ravel Morrison than a Ronaldo?

The only thing Messi does better than Ronaldo is dribbling.

Apart from that Ronaldo is superior in every way and has won it all for club and country and has proved himself in 3 different countries at the highest level.

Messi hasn't

Messi is a far better playmaker than Ronaldo, it isn't even close.

Ronaldo has scored so many winning goals in CL knockout stages though.

Madrid simply wouldn't have made 3 finals without him, and Juve likely wouldn't have gone through last night either.

In my opinion the only place Ronaldo is Messi's equal is if you're look at a goal scoring stat sheet.

I cant understand anyone who has seen significant amounts of both players would consider them equals on the pitch.

You could play Messi anywhere across the front, as a 10, a winger or central midfielder and he'd be influencing or running games and scoring goals. His passing and creativity is as good as I've ever seen.

When you think about it, he combines the goal threat of Ronaldo, the passing ability of Xavi, the genius touch and creativity of Zidane and the ability to float past players like Iniesta.

Ronaldo is a great goal scorer, but If you not biased by club loyalty and think Ronaldo's better your flat up underrating Messi.
