Messi

Two goals and two assists for Messi. Anything Ronaldo does, he can do.

They are both amazing players that are taking the game to new levels. You can enjoy them both and there's no need to hate one because you like the other.

"In a sense, Messi even managed to surpass Ronaldo by providing four goals: two scored by himself, and two more expertly set up for Gerard Pique and Ousmane Dembele."

In fairness, there was nothing remarkable about his pass to Démbéle, who still had to produce a fine finish to put it away.

The set up for Piqué though, was of a calibre that only Messi is capable of coming up with time and again.

You might see a footballer play the odd throughball like that, but they're rare. Messi just keeps on producing that kind of assist.

Funny enough, it was precisely that thought that leads me to finally conceding after many years of holding the opposite view, that Messi, and not Maradona, is indeed the best footballer I've watched in my lifetime.
