There was a discussion about Ronaldo

a day or so ago. Various players were covered includind Di Stefano and George Best. Now comparisons between current players are valid and fun, though it impossible to tell who is the best imo.But to include players from so long ago is ridiculous, it is a different game now. How so you ask, or don't, depending on your interest.
From the ground up, the pitches are different and better, we used to play on mud, snow, frozen pitches.
Boots are better.
The ball is different.
The rules are different, offside, back passes etc. Plus fouls given were different, the ref may blow if he thought your leg was broken.
So George and Christiano for example were both wonderful No 7's for our club, but who was better, impossible to say.
George played for fame and fun, he had more talent but no dedication. His life was filled and fulfilled with footie, booze and birds. I got joy out of watching him. If he had met Christiano in a game it would have been his pleasure to nutmeg him and leave him on his backside.
Christiano is a better athlete by far, more pace and power, better in the air, more serious about his career, more determined and with his share of natural talent.
If he played in the 60's he would have been a revalation, if George played now he would have opened a lot of eyes.
I have chosen these because they are ours and played in the same number shirt but it is an exercise that could be repeated a thousand times.
So there is no'best', only great but different.

Ronaldinho is probably a bit more comparable to Best, in terms of levels of success (countries aside), and the way they were the best player in the world in their eras for a fairly short period. But yes both are below CR7.

See George a lot Wahl ?

I think you're being too nostalgic when it comes to George Best. Ronaldo and Messi have done what no player before have done. They're both a level above Best. Like Brotle says, compare players like Ronaldinho to best, but not Cristiano. Cristiano has earned to right to be compared to the very top players in the game, not George Best.

So, never then, so you do not know of what you speak

By the way, did you read the OP?

I read a few lines and then disagreed with "though it impossible to tell who is the best imo." when you were talking about comparing Ronaldo with George Best and Di Stefano. It's not impossible, Ronaldo is better than they were.

But you have never seen them play, I have, which is an advantage when comparing.

In 30 years time you guys will be arguing that Messi and Ronnie are still the GOAT with the kids of the future and they will be also be dissing you whilst lauding their own flavour of that era, just like you are to manusince52, and the rest of the more knowledgeable United supporters than you lot are

Bookmark that.

I'd happily compare Ronaldo to Pele, or Ronaldo to Maradona.

I won't compare him to Best though. That's insulting to Ronaldo.
