Why don‘t people go long against lfc

Jose and van gaal both did pretty well against klopp by using fellaini. If you hit it long over the midfield of Liverpool you nullify their press and much of their attack.

And yet even teams with clearly inferior players keep trying to pass it out from the back. Kovac is my dad‘s mate so I like him but he got it totally wrong yesterday

That was in a time when we had Skrtel, Lovren and Sakho as our first centre backs and Mignolet as the GK.
They were awful in defending the long ball tactic.

The problem is solved with Alisson, VVD, Matip and Fabinho in the team.

Watford tried this and we mauled them. VVD and Matip are mountains

However, if you hit it long you hit it to VVD and Matip, unwise. Besides, not everyone has a big target man like Fellaini.

..............

No you don't Viva. You hit it long down the flanks or in the area to far in front of the CB's. This is how Leicester were so successful with Vardy and Mahrez.

People need to get it out of their heads that a long ball is only a high hoof right down the middle.

The OP used the example of Fellaini as someone to hit it long to. With that type of player, you need to play it direct into him.

Of course you can play it 'long' into the channels for someone like Rashford to chase. But if you are so deep and playing it long like that it makes it difficult to support your striker.

We went from having our defenders ridiculed because they were a bunch of clowns to now having the best defence in Europe. The Stats don't lie.

Lewandowski almost had a pen yesterday when van dyck failed to deal with a chip over the top. Lewandowski had a chance in the second half from a Ball over the top to Gnabry too

Interesting story.

Absolutely no truth in it of course, there was never a chance of a penalty, unless the officials made a huge mistake, and quite clearly VVD didn't fail to deal with it as he came away with the ball.

Looked pretty much dealt with to me.

Remember when klopp said he could write a book on defending and they all laughed at him. Ha ha ha who is laughing now.

Teams do go long against us. Most teams we play in fact. The park the bus and hit it long, hoping to counter when we've pushed up. The problem with that is that you spend most of the game chasing the ball and it tires you out. The odd game it will work but most it won't. We've lost one game in the league and it wasn't due to long balls, it was due to a team passing the ball well. I'll say nothing about the Kompany red.

Then we've drew a few when teams have effectively parked the bus; Chelsea, Everton, Leicester, West Ham and United off the top of my head. So that seems to be the best tactic to stop us winning, hence why most teams do it.

We parked the bus? We lost 3 players to injury and still made best chances in game. You lot were crap.

Yes. It's not a criticism; the manager made the right call to do that after losing players and having to keep an injured player on. There's no way he would have set up that way had you not suffered those injuries.

Jose and Lvg did okay against a Liverpool side which has since progressed and is now 1 of Europes best sides. A different beast to the moreno and mignolet days
