Cardiff City will tell FIFA that the contract to sign Emiliano Sala from Nantes was not legally binding.
The Welsh club have refused to pay the £15m transfer fee for the striker, who was killed in a plane crash two months ago.
Nantes have complained to FIFA, and Cardiff have until April 3 to respond.
Cardiff will argue that Sala's contract had been rejected by the Premier League and was therefore 'null and void'.

A difficult situation to be in. What would be the best resolution?
Cardiff refuse to pay for Sala

If FIFA registered the international transfer certificate then surely Cardiff should be made to pay up?
The issue of his contract and the premier league sounds like it’s an issue between those two and his eligibility as a premier league player, rather than the transfer of the players registration, or am I missing something?
Cardiff clearly lacking class in this situation, but I get why they are trying to get out of paying it if they are able to.

He was a Cardiff player and off. They have to pay Nantes.

But he wasn't.
The contract was void.

Surely the agent and player are at fault for scheduling there own risky flight. The pilot was apparently unqualified to fly passengers so any insurance cover would probably be void also. Tricky situation really. I think charity would actually be an excellent idea.

Can't believe people are saying Cardiff lack class. This is £15m. It seems quite telling that fans of all the rich clubs are the ones saying pay up.
Let's also remember that Cardiff have no recourse to insurers. Nantes might if the case goes against them. So neither club might end up too badly off that way.

Will be gutted if Cardiff stay up. Can't remember a team less deserving of being in the Prem since...probably last time Colin had a team in the Prem.

I'd rather Burnley went as they always take something off us whereas Cardiff is 6 points. WBA can stay in the Championship for the same reason.
Do Cardiffs public relations people not realise that not paying will damage their reputation for many years to come. Whether legally its necessary or not pay them because its the right thing to do. Horrible cants!
----------------------------------------------------------------------
To be fair we’re not talking about a quibble with your window cleaner as to whether he’s getting paid or not, we’re talking 15 million nicker. Think that is Cardiff’s record signing? If they believe that A) there was no valid contract and B) he snuffed it as a result of someone else’s negligence, then they’d be fools to just hand over that sort of dough out of politeness. They are staring relegation in the face, the whole point of buying him was to score the goals to get them out. Shame that he died and all that but busunless is business, I have some sympathy with them.
It does sound like they’re trying to get out of it on a technicality, however contract law exists to protect everybody - after the legal people have picked the bones out of it, followed undoubtedly by numerous appeals, the lawful outcome will occur as per the finer details of whatever was signed & agreed.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yeah, Cardiff need to do the decent thing and pay up.
They already leaked that Nantes wanted payment in the aftermath of the crash. I have a little sympathy for them, but not much.

I support Dundee United. We're in the second tier of Scottish football. We are running up massive debts and don't have two pennies to rub together.
Cardiff are completely lacking class here and should pay up.
I'd be ashamed if my club acted this way. The damage it is doing to Cardiff and their reputation is enormous.
Pay the money and move on. It's shameful.

I've got a spare penny, if someone else also has one lets send them both to Dundee Utd so they can rub them together ................ and presumably make a wish !

They were happy to show him signing a contract, paraded him round the stadium and commemerated his death in a way you would expect them to as one of their players (Warnock even went to Argentina for the funeral).
Even if they get relegtated they will get parachute payments and the damage they will do to their club could cost them alot more than 15mil in the long run. No compromise just cough up.
