Yesterday was my second visit to

the new White Hart Lane, and the stadium looked even better than the first visit. It is a truly magnificent stadium, and one the club should be very proud of delivering. Certainly right up there with the best club stadiums in world football, a big thankyou to our Chairman, Daniel Levy is the order of the day. Sure he has his faults, and he is often criticised, rightly or wrongly by some of our supporters, but he has delivered what he promised, this fantastic new stadium.

Right now on to one or two negatives from yesterday. Firstly the bar areas, or all areas were frankly absolutely mobbed even a couple of hours before kick off, this may have something to do with supporters being able to move about freely within the stadium, and whilst that is a good thing, I think maybe if supporters were kept in their own sections, it may be easier to access bars, facilities etc. Just a thought. Also a lack of escalators, only one I think that goes just to the executive bit at the top of the stadium. I would have assumed in a billion pound stadium, catering for thousands of people, that escalators would have been absolute essential to move supporters up to all five levels, even major stores have escalators, so begs the questions why the new grounds hasn`t. Also given that when I went to use the lift up to Level 5, I was told I could not use it as the lifts for disabled supporters only. OK I consider myself a reasonably fit 70 year old, but there are plenty that no way could climb all those steps to the top of the stadium, even though they have no major physical disability. I made a point to various stewards around the lift points, that it was a complete joke that the lifts were not being made for open use, to if not all supporters, at the very least the elderly should be able to access the lifts, and I shall be forwarding a letter to the club about the lift situation. Also could barely find a programme seller inside the stadium, eventually did around by the South Stand, I think they need to sort this out, because plenty were saying the same thing.

The other thing is the transport situation to and from the Stadium, with Northumberland Park out of action most weekend, yes I know that is really out of the clubs hands, the only close accessible station is then WHL, which is always crowded, and I believe that had problems again yesterday, the queues looked very long after the game, to access the station. Maybe the club should think of getting shuttle buses to take supporters up to Seven Sisters, maybe they already have, I don`t go that way, so not sure.

Anyway enough of the negatives, I shall not be at the Crystal Palace game, but the atmosphere will be absolutely incredible, and all that go, make plenty of noise, it could be worth a goal or two.

The use of escalators in this environment is an H&S concern.
Whilst at a concert at Madison Square Gardens they were turned off when people were leaving the arena as there were massive bottlenecks.

Problem with the south stand market place it holds 3.5k.

South stand holds 17.5k then you have another 20k from other stages trying to access it

It’s just not going to work is it. If I was spurs I’d lock the south stand down until the novelty wears off.

Why is everyone congregating there? Are there not bars around the other parts of the ground?

Yea there’s bars in every area but obviously the market place is the best place to be.

I too went the the match yesterday, my first time, and was also initially surprised at the lack of escalators. Having used one when going to Wembley, I just assumed this would be the same at the new stadium.

Obviously I do get the possible H&S issues, but there are plenty of people who were really, and I mean really, struggling to get to their seats due to being totally out of breath.

I am in the upper East, so have to walk up to level 5, then have a further 27 rows to climb before getting to my seat. Whilst I am physically ok, I am not as young as I was, with a bit of arthritis in one knee and was breathing really heavy by the time I got to my seat.

The worry though is I watched several supporters older or less fit than others who looked like they might not make it to their seats.

Not sure what the answer is. Clearly having spent that much, they are not going to spend more on escalators, so do they change their policy with the lifts, once someone has a heart attack ?

Obviously 62k fans cant all converge on the lifts, but perhaps the older, or less physically fit should, with some proper organisation from stewards, be able to at least go up, whilst everyone walks down at the end.

Really not sure the answer with this one, but the Stadium / atmosphere was fantastic.Wednesday
( once you make it to your seat ) will be awesome.

I was absolutely facked walking up the steps from the bottom of the south stand to the top.

Feel sorry for anyone that does that every game.

I was 252 row 28 ( in line with the wheelchair users ) and if you have a ST around that area you’re in for a treat.

when atletico madrid moved to their new stadium, it was served with it's v own metro station.....specifically for the stadium

such forward planning and care for the supporter is sadly lacking in the UK, though

It would be good if somehow they could extend a branch of the Victoria Line down from Seven Sisters to White Hart Lane and on to Edmonton and beyond up to Enfield, not only just for football, but there is a very large community in and around Tottenham and Edmonton. Will happen in time I suspect, but probably not in my lifetime.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I always thought they should have pushed for this after London won the Olympic bid, loop the Victoria line round after Seven Sisters via Northumberland Pk and on to Walthamstow or Stratford.

I agree Hengy, once the novelty wears off, I suspect supporters will just stay in their own areas. Until then I would shut the South Stand off for a bit. I shall also try to get tickets lower down to avoid the climbing of to many stairs, although I did climb all the stairs from Level 1 to Level 5 yesterday, I don`t really want to be doing that every match, although the view was superb.

Yes, I saw them yesterday, when I was walking up Creighton Road, they were all parked up. I think they take the place of the W3. Northumberland Park will be open Wednesday, just the weekends, they are doing all the engineering works.
