and sometimes a lot of luck. Take yesterday for example. Chelsea were losing 1-0 with barely six minutes to go, and were awarded a hugely controversial equaliser with two players clearly offside, they went on to win the game. So going from getting zero points, they ended up winning three points. Spurs on the other hand were piling on the pressure at 1-1, and looked all over the winners of the game at Liverpool. Missed a glorious opportunity to wrap up the points late on, then went on to drop a clanger, and ended up, with instead of three points, they got zero.
The two results combined, meant there was a six point swing. Spurs could have been say seven points clear of Chelsea, but find themselves just 1 point ahead. It`s a funny old game as Greavsie would say.
Given also that of the last seven games Spurs have played, six have been away from home, and five of their last seven fixtures have included Dortmund twice, Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool.
Moving on from yesterday, Spurs are still priced at 4/7 for a top four finish, so whilst some of our supporters may have reservations, the bookies still reckon we are a good thing for top four, even with the poor form, they probably realise it will improve sooner rather than later, and with the five home games to come have reflected it in their odds.
Football is a game of fine margins

Sorry to say, but nah, not this year. Virtually every home game has banana skin potential, and the "luck pot" is being consistently sprinkled elsewhere, which I don't think will change any time soon.

SteveF, I think Spurs will get top four, the fixtures are pretty kind, other than City away, every game for every team is a potential banana skin, not just Spurs. Arsenal have to go to teams like Everton, Wolves and Leicester away, they are banana skins as well. United have to go to teams Wolves away, and still have City and Chelsea to play, they can be considered as banana skins as well.

There is nothing we can do about inept / biased refereeing, but we can cut out all the individual errors that cost us points also.

I really hope you are right. I want my team to do well as much as anyone else, but after years of these types of matches, I just seem to have lost my optimism. Butwe will see.

I think our lack of form over the past few games may have something to do with playing Dortmund twice, Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool in five of our last seven games, and four of those tricky games were away, and if you include both Burnley and Southampton, Spurs have played six of their last seven games away from home.

Sandy, what's happened? You're suddenly applying logic and fact to your arguments, which are coherent and relatively even-handed.
I'm not as optimistic as you, but still - fair play

I always try to apply logic. OK sometimes I go a bit over the top, but you have to allow for my age.

Here's my way of looking at Spurs at the moment ......
if Trippier plays .... we lose 75% of the time.
If both Davies and Trippier play ... we lose, period.
If Aurier and Rose play .... we got a 50% chance of winning.

Logic??
Sandy ... I've watched spurs play football for over 70 years, and I have never ever seen such a ridiculously stupid way of losing a match as what happened yesterday.
I don't think Lloris can be sleeping at nights.
