lets play football manager

Pogba has recently been linked with a move to Real Madrid ( who knows, more than likely paper talk) but you'd expect the fee to be pretty high.

if Real came in with an offer of say Varane and isco for Pogba and 20-30 million would you guys take it?

Varane is my fave cb so i will have him if he wants to join and pogba wants to leave. But we need to take madrid to the cleaners imo. At least enough that it hurts them

btw 2 years is too long for a fickle club like madrid they will move on to the next flavour of the month. I said the same thing when they were pursuing DDG
years ago I also used to hate player exchanges but with the market as it is now player exchanges

I don't agree, I think once it ticks under 2 years then actually the transfer value decreases.

It's not as if we'll have to flog him on the cheap, but I think it would rule out some of the massive transfer fees we've seen in the world.

Pretty sure Coutinho was down to 2 years too, so there is a precedent.

Ah okay, fair enough - didn't know that and have got that one wrong

For the most part, you are correct that you will see a price drop at 2 years, 18 months, 12 months etc...

But with these big stars, i think it becomes more about the buying club needing the player then and there, rather than potentially mucking up the deal by low balling and ending up with nothing... This will be especially true for Real after they mucked up the De Gea deal.

It's also clear the Ole is planning the team around Pogba, so any deal will need to be big.

Yeh, fair point.

The only snag with that is if Pogba tells the club he won't sign a new contract I suppose.

Hopefully we'll have someone else in by then to negotiate these things so it won't be left to Ed!

Pogba will not be off to Madrid. I doubt they’d spend 100m+ * on him, they’ll go after hazard. I’ll be very surprised if he’s not here next season.

As for the verane/Isco deal, probably take it if it was verane/Kroos (he must be knocking on a bit, so would depend on his age) though Isco is awesome.

Sorry, that's not right. Coutinho signed a new contract with Liverpool to 2022 and we sold him in January 2018 so he had 4.5 years left on his contract.

It was known when he signed that he wanted to go to Barca, Liverpool tied him to the contract to get maximum fee possible. Probably hoped they'd convinced him to stay but knew that if we couldn't, we'd get top dollar.

I sincerely doubt you'd get Pogba's maximum value with under 2 years left on contract. Although Utd are rich enough to just decline any bids irrespective.

Slightly separate point; Varane is a top class CB. That would be a hell of a signing for Utd imo.

If sold, we should be looking at similar to Coutinho money.

Especially from them.

Pogba's contract has 2 years to run - plus the club have the option to unilaterally extend it by another year.

Effectively there is 3 years to go on Pogba's contract.

I was just about to post this. We are in a strong position if he does leave the club this summer.

If we can get really stupid money for Pogba we really have to take it.

He still blows hot and cold and that is always going to be a concern.

I thought he was on his 2nd contract... Didn't know he signed another. That certainly helps get the price up.
