Last Night

Okay this might not be a popular opinion right now but watching you guys last night for the first 20 minutes, I was really impressed with the performance.

Result aside, any team trying to change their style of play would stumble - see us in Pep's first season. However, for this new brave approcah to flourish, certain things should be fixed.

1) Pogba. He does not fit this new system where all the boys are required to run and run and run.
2) De Gea. Good shot stopper but his ball playing skills from the back could cause more harm than good. See Petr Czech of Arsenal and Leno for reference.
3) The fans need to be patient. If your team is working hard, usually, results will follow. And if your team wants to be brave, mistakes will happen.

What do you guys think?

Bayern saw us coming twice.

That they did. Both players, fully fit, would have been a pretty good midfield though!

Thinking of Bastian I wonder if he'd be up for a DoF role? I've no evidence at all to go with that he'd be a success but the fact he's a winner, will have good contacts and seems an intelligent man could work! He'd also be able to stick two fingers up at Jose as well which could well be a reason for him!

Indeed. And I think if Young hadn't have got sent off then we would have gone on to win the game.

Yes, the goals they scored were gifts from us. If we were more clinical, it would have been 3 nil in 20 mins

DDG deserves so much better than having likes of Valencia, Young, Smalling, Jones and Lindelof ahead of him.

I can't believe he's put up with this as long as he has. If he doesn't renew his contract in the next 2 months then we have to sell him or risk losing him for free in 2020. Simple as that.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

You could also argue that having someone like Schmeichel or Van der Sar would help those defenders more

There's no real need to be knee-jerk really. We knew the squad needed work and results like last night isn't a major surprise. I suppose it's just disappointing after battling back into top 4 contention. The good thing about that though, for me anyway, is that defeats hurt now again which wasn't the case under Jose in the end (more of an indifference really).

DDG hasn't looked top class this season. He's still been good but not at his absolute best. He is allowed a dip though as his standards have been high for quite some time. Having said all that, and I don't want him to leave of course, but perhaps this summer could be a good time to cash in on him? If Real are so desperate for him, and he wants to go, perhaps we could ask for players from Real (like we should have done when selling Ronaldo - Robben, Sneijder etc) in positions we need quality? I'm thinking the likes of Carvajal (heart condition permitting), Varane and Kroos for RB, CB and CM. If their is going to be a large turnover at Madrid over the summer let's at least be at the front of the queue for players if they can improve us (I know we don't want rejects but Real have hardly been logical in the past when it comes to selling players).

If we are to fail to get top 4 then, in a funny way, it may help Solskjaer as he may have to go for players who are not 'galacticos' and go for players who fit the system he is trying to implement. Liverpool are going for the title at the moment with a team that consists of players signed from:

Roma

Youth
Saints
Schalke/Youth/Saints (take your pick)
Hull

Sunderland
City
Monaco

Roma
Hoffenheim
Saints

It's all about getting the system right and the players to fit. Hopefully Ole and his team can do this and I've no doubt he'll be quite brutal in the summer and that, if we are in the Europa next year, it'll be easier for him to do that as well.

Stupendous post

Even our treble winning team and League and Champs League team had players from clubs like that.

What I wanted to see yesterday from Ole was a different approach to the FA cup game tactics wise and I saw it.

If Young had not been sent off, we would have won that game.

We are on the verge of losing key players to this squad, Ole is still a big risk no matter what anyone says, so it is natural people are rightly pi**ed because the future looks bleak

Maybe if you believe everything you read in the red tops and have a pre-disposition to being a wet blanket.

I think our fans are almost conditioned now to cry and moan at every slight set back. Most here will talk a big game about how they don't mind a few losses or seasons without trophies as long as there is clear progress... Yet the toys are thrown the moment we lose or look like missing out on top four, let alone a trophy.

There is clear progress under Ole and his vision will take time. All I can say is that I am enjoying football again and, even when 2-1 down and with ten men, I had some hope of getting a result and seeing some decent football.

On the whole, what was said yesterday was that this squad is full of players that are a shower of shiiit. You look at Liverpool when Klopp took over, they were playing entertaining football but nowhere near the top, and this is what we said.

We are on the verge of losing key players to this squad, Ole is still a big risk no matter what anyone says, so it is natural people are rightly pi**ed because the future looks bleak

What key players are we on the verge of losing?

Mata? Is he still a key player?

Herrera is a good player but him leaving can be easily managed.

Who else is leaving?

MUDD.

I agree. The Young sending off was a major turning point. At the time I felt we'd got a grip of the game again. Even down to 10 I think we'd have got a point (even all 3) were it not for some shocking defending.

Wolves are a good side though to be fair and it was always going to be a big test. The negative to take is the defeat but the positive to take is that we should have had that game wrapped up by the time they equalised.

Lingard should never be on the field unless he is working with Pogba and supporting fast and quick-thinking players like Martial and Rashford, not Rom, who is the polar opposite. Ole won't repeat that mistake, but he was a little lean on starters.I expect smart reinforcements next season with the emphasis on quickness, rather than brute strength.Speaking of lean, who do we use besides Dalot at fullback in the next PL match?

I actually kind of agree with the op. Pogba whilst quality is too hot and miss, too specialist in his role, and often too slow in thinking.the flip side is, when given time he’s deadly in picking passes, but against good teams he doesn’t get that.he doesn’t control games unless we try and funnel it through him, and that’s in fits and bursts.

But he’s still quality. But I can’t help think we’d be better with more energetic all rounders who can also do the hard work with the front three, given ole’s inclinations.

Ultimately we need someone with a tactical brain, a carrick or modric type to orchestrate. Jose tried pogba there, he just doesn’t have the brain, and to be fair it’s not his game.
