Conrgratulations Daniel Levy!

There has been quite a lot of criticism of our chairman over the years. Much of the criticism has been justified to be honest. However, credit where credit is due. He has overseen the delivery of a truly world class stadium and he should be applauded for the achievement.

Reading his statement yesterday (and watching his interview) it is abundantly clear that he has the club’s best interests at heart. It is not possible for us fans (or anyone else actually) to know the true state of affairs within the club with regards to its finances etc and it’s so easy for us to demand “spend, spend, spend!" , but with a project that dates back to 2002 it’s reasonable to acknowledge now that sacrifices had to be made along the way.

The sacrifices have been in the form of player wages and new signings. The chairman’s statement also makes it clear that there have been personal sacrifices by him and other staff at the club in order to get us to where we are today. As he said in his statement “you simply cannot be a big club with a 36,000-seater stadium". The implication is that he wants us to be a big club and hopefully he will follow through with the next phase of the “project" which should entail real investment in the team/squad going forward.

Well done Daniel!

I loved his statement, and credit to him for what he's achieved. Delivering this stadium must've been very, very stressful.

Fantastic achievement, but there should be no excuses not to invest in the playing squad now. I don’t want any excuses this summer. He and the heirarchy deserve full credit for the stadium no doubt about it, but another summer of uncertainty and fumbling around with the transfer window is unforgivable and will end up losing Pochettino. They delivered on the stadium front, now time to help Poch deliver on the pitch. Massive investment needed this summer.

From every account I have seen, neither Levy nor Poch have said there won't be investment in players.

They have said they won't just spend for the sake of it. Just spending in transfer windows and buying players and expect this to be a successful formula is far stretched and won't work.

Ask Fulham, who spent £100million and are relegated.

However, the management are earmarking targets to acquire and these players are under long contracts and therefore Levy will be tested with his purse ambition and as Poch only wants quality players, that purse will need to be ditched for a bigger and better one

Poch has now said the target is now to win trophies.

The stadium as the target previously and now we have that we can somewhat be on a level playing field with some of the biggest clubs in Europe, with attendances of 55k+

The playing staff we have are already of high calibre mostly, bar few and we all know who these are.

Keep the best and freshen up with new quality players.

i doubt there was a spurs fan in the house who didn't feel a tear in their eye during the glory glory Tottenham hotspur of the opening ceremony. a proud moment for the club. a world class, statement making stadium, to match the ambition of the club... and even though it was late, it was worth the wait.

that's our home for the next 100 years.... the stadium our grandkids and their grandkids will watch spurs at.

well done Levy !

“you simply cannot be a big club with a 36,000-seater stadium"

That's true off the pitch, you can't be seen as a major club without it but you can be a very, very successful club with a small capacity. Arsenal and Chelsea have proved over the last 20 years that it's more than possible to win major silverware consistently in a small stadium. With the rising importance of TV revenues the importance of gate receipts is dwindling. If stadium sizes were the measure of a club's level, why the hell aren't Newcastle nearer the top end of the league? I just don't buy it. A brand spanking new stadium doesn't mean diddlysquat if you're not investing on the pitch.

I dunno about Levy making personal sacrifices, didn't he get a massive pay rise

Fair play otherwise though. I saw Pochettino said this week that this summer is massive for him, but I just don't see any way that there can be lots to spend this summer. The stadium went over budget by, what, £400m?

Levy selling beer after the game for three hours was a masterstroke on how to make money.
