Nirvana was one of my favourites bands in my teens along with the likes chilli pepper, pumpkins, pearl jam, stone temple pilots, alice in chains, and soundgarden.
Nirvana though went from being a band with an underground alternative/indi/collage radio following to the biggest band in the world over night with the release of their second album nevermind and single smells like teen spirit in 1991.
Sadly a few years later in April 1994 after a few albums, a few law suits, and apparently multiple drug overdoses Cobain took his own life with a shotgun blast to the head while high on heroin.
Anyways I've been enjoying the music for the last 30 years.
here's one of my favourite live performances. Nirvana performed at the MTV Video Music Awards where, despite the network's refusal to let the band play the new song "Rape Me" during the broadcast, Cobain strummed and sang the first few bars of the song before breaking into "Lithium"

Saw Pearl Jam at Finsbury Park 93 supporting Neil Young, also on the bill were James, Teenage fancclub and 4non blondes
Saw Screaming Trees at Newcastle riverside 96 with Josh Homme as guest guitarist, absolute cracking gig
Saw Pumpkins at Newcastle Mayfair 93 with Verve supporting and again at Manchester Nynex 95 or 96 can't remember exactly with Filter supporting
The Newcastle gig was far far better as the venue was a lot smaller plus Verve were superb

Disliked Nirvana in school because our rival band played their songs and our band played Metallica songs. I mean a 5 year old could play Nirvana's songs. Still decent though.
