Young had plenty of space to get balls into the box all game but not once did he pick anyone out. Shocking delivery from him.

Barca won't make same mistake as PSG next week but there's nothing to fear from them for the remaining teams based on tonight.

I watched it at home. United didn’t have a sniff all night.

I thought it was a good effort but lacking in quality.

Barca weren't great, and at times they clearly didn't enjoy the pressure.

However I kind of wonder if Barca even went out of second gear.

In the end I'm leaving thinking it was a chance missed. Tactically we did the right thing and j can't fault the effort but we just lacked quality in the end.

100% agree. Thought Fred and Scott were fantastic in the middle of the park tonight.

It always fills me with great optimism when after about two games large numbers of our fans confidently declare that one of our youth products is "Championship level at best".

They did really well, I thought despite the possession stats our midfield looked the more comfortable of the two for most of the game. But it was a performance that was more good in the first two thirds rather than the final third and that was a huge issue for us as we kept going wide for Young to send in a shiiiiiit cross.

We got into so many promising positions tonight that led to nothing. Credit to Barca because they actually defended well, but we made it easy for them with our choices wnd lack of quality with the delivery.

I don’t think it’s a midfield that is worth persisting with because it still lacks in quality. That’s not to say they don’t have their value to the squad if they can make it a regular occurrence to play as they have tonight, but it’s still lacking, in my opinion.

You did well, and those 2 did play well. I don’t want to rain on anyone’s parade or anything but there is one problem i see:

It’s easier to “put in a shift” and be the best player for your side in midfield when your disrupting and then recycling the ball. When the other side is a better side and your main role is to just ruin their possession it’s easier to play well.

The concern would be in most games where you need to dictate play and break down a side who are sitting in, i don’t think those two could do it.

They could be important cogs in your side but i think you would need one top quality addition If say Pogba left. Someone to control a game.

McT is a lot better than he's rated by folks on here, but I agree about your points relating to creativity in possession.

Yeah and I’m not shiiiitting on McT. I like him, and i think both could be important members of your side. But you’ll need that creative player to offset the workman like players in midfield around them, and that’s not a dig at them. You need a balance in midfield and they will provide that with a creative player
