Sarri sounded very honest, if a little harsh, when asked about Danny Drinkwater. He seems to have made his mind up that there is no place in his system for Drinkwater. Certainly Bakayoko made a good decision to leave on loan - and Drinkwater may be regretting his decision to stay at this point. But I have to say, I am slightly surprised that Drinkwater has not been used as a backup to Jorginho in that central role. He can't be any worse than Kovacic has been there - and in fact even Ampadu was given the opportunity to try out for it before being quickly discarded. I'm not suggesting for a minute that Drinkwater should be a starter for Chelsea, but is anyone else surprised that he hasn't been used even once? There just seems more to this - like Sarri was annoyed that Drinkwater didn't leave and allow him to sign an alternate player? Either way, there seems little doubt that he has no future while Sarri remains at the club.

Sarri has said this before. I get that he doesn’t rate him and he feels he’s not suited to the system but also, like you, I’m surprised it’s to the point where he is ostracised completely from the squad. Against fodder teams yeah you’d think he could do a job in Jorgi role. Anyway it’s upto Sarri and not a big issue, Kovacic has grown to the role in any case.

Kovacic hasn't impressed that much...Drinkwater would probably be a similar fit
