He wasn’t a top player Ted, he was a bang average player who’d just been part of a Newcastle team that got relelagted. France weren’t too hot then, they had young talent coming through who weren’t ready yet; Sissoko had a decent Euro’s which is why clubs like us and Everton were sniffing around him after Newcastle went down. He was largely garbage for us until this season where he’s been really consistent. Still not a great footballer, but a powerhouse who gives us muscle and drive in midfield.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I disagree with everything in this post.
When we bought Sissoko from Newcastle, he was, at the time, our record signing.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Doesn’t make him a top quality player, just means we got our pants pulled down.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
At that time he was a member of the French National squad under DesChamps. He was a top player. Midfield force.
Joined us and went downhill.
Lost his place in the French squad. Missed the WC.
And now.... this season, he's back, both as a player and as a member of the French squad.
Playing the way he is now, he's worth every penny levy paid for him then. He's our go-to player in midfield.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Sorry Ted but that is utter bollox. Well the first bit at least - I know he’s playing well now and in hindsight the fee is more justifiable, but he wasn’t regarded as a top quality player when we bought him. Most oppo fans were mocking us for spending £30m on him, and he was atrocious for Newcastle the season they were relegated.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Well, given a choice between your opinion and the opinion of Didier Deschamps at the time, I know who's opinion I would rate!!

Deschamps is still picking Giroud for the France squad ffs
Ted you're objectively wrong here - Sissoko didn't suddenly fall off a cliff when he came here, he was same player we had bought from Newcastle

Ted, playing for your country doesn’t make you automatically a stellar player. Eric Dier and Jesse Lingard regularly play for England. France were no great shakes back then, they binned off players like Sissoko and went on to win a World Cup - what does that tell you? Do you have any recollection of Sissoko as a player before this season - apart from a few games at Euro 2016 he has never been anything other than a bang average, technically limited player.

If only you would read what you write, you would see the answers to your own issues.
I'll spell it out for you one more time, and that's it!
1. When you play for a WC champion squad you are a top player.
2. When Levy bought Sissoko from newcastle he WAS a member of the French squad.
3. He then went downhill.
4. He lost his place in the French Squad.
5. Two seasons later he's back to his old form
6. Now he is again a member of the French squad.
7. Most fans on here will credit Sissoko with a major contribution to our ability to beat ManCity. MoM was between Sissoko and Rose.
Now, I will say no more to you as it will be a waste of time.

I doubt Sissoko has ever played better in his whole career, than he is doing now. Fair play to him, he has turned around a couple of really atrocious seasons, and has really turned up this season. If he could add half a dozen goals or so to his repertoire of strength and pace, then he would be right up there with the very best in the Prem. Definitely our most consistent player along with Verts this season.

Agree Sandy. I saw him play twice for the bar codes before he came to Spurs and to be honest I was surprised at what we paid for him. I recall a Geordie mate of mine falling about laughing. I guess it's taken a while but who is laughing now...

Right-on Sandy!
And now Levy has to get his wallet out......
Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solksjaer will be given a club-record £200m to spend during the summer transfer window. (Sunday Express)
And the Old Trafford club will triple Christian Eriksen's wages if Tottenham's 27-year-old Danish midfielder joins them in the summer. (Mirror)
Let the bidding begin!
