Time for my controversial Monday morning article. Waiting for Nev to step back up but until he does I’ll do my best.
So, Newcastle proved that Rodgers is actually no better than Puel, and against teams that sit deep and defend we have no clue. Yes if Vardy had taken his one chance we’d have drawn a tough game against a well organised team, but we can’t rely on him being that clinical every game.
So, I was thinking. What do we need to change this. Well, firstly, faster passing and energy in the final third. What was nice to see is Rodgers has brought this to the team and we instantly look better that the toothless tosh we saw under Puel. It’s been enjoyable to watch, but it was also ineffective against a solid deep lying defence.
Barnes and Gray are still not at the level needed to unlock a defence. Hopefully Barnes will improves with experience, and he will find a bit more composure in the final pass/shot to add to his undoubted ability on the ball. Gray is done for me, but regular readers will know that. So what we actually need, if we want to succeed playing this way is more quality across the midfield.
Step forward Riyad Mahrez! Stop laughing people. Seriously. I actually thought about this and whilst he’s played a role at Man City this year I just don’t think the club and player are a fit for each other. With KDB returning to fitness Mahrez just won’t get a look in over him, Silva, Sterling and Sane. That’s before I even start to mention the likes of Foden and others wanting starting spots.
Then I look at our team, where we have inverted or narrow wingers trying to play between the lines, and I thought, he’d fit.
So, let’s all accept that The Mahrez to Man City experiment was a failure and let’s bring him back next season. Happy for a season long loan just to try it out. Interested if Man City fans actually would want to keep him or not.
Failing Mahrez (which is a bit tongue in cheek if you haven’t guessed yet), I do think we need that sort of player in Rodgers system. That can engage defenders but also pick the right pass to pull defences out of position. Salah is probably unavailable so Mahrez will have to do.
Or maybe next season will actually be the season Gray steps up.....
....
....
.... sorry, I’ve just stopped laughing at myself.

In terms of bringing back former popular players who play out wide. Why don't we bring Anthony Knockaert back? Especially if Brighton go down.
A player who I know Dunge rates as: "Premier League ready"
----------------------------------------------------------------------
That serious? He looks more limited than a gray on an off day. Knows how to tackle though 😳

"That serious?" What do you think?

Joby - I'm warning you. I've already shifted Morgan up to an 8. Don't make me go to a 9.
Mersey - If JohnGee actually performed that, all would be forgiven.

His penalty miss at Anfield has probably cost us the title

He never could take a penalty. His record is awful!

That’s ok with me Dunge - but you might hear an explosion over Nuneaton sometime soon.

We would have won the league by March 2016 and set a record if Mahrez was any good at penalties

I may have been dreaming or even just not paying a great deal of attention to last night's moan in but I think Nev was on it and someone mentioned getting married this weekend? If so it may explain why he isn't giving this forum the full attention it deserves at present!

What a time to be alive. All the best Nev and good luck converting John back to being a Leicester fan.

Last week he was trying to get pipes to agree that we should go back to two defensive midfielders, pipes just laughed him off.
