I see the BBC have already put it to their "pundits" and have an interactive poll running too. I use the term pundits lightly as a few have Pogba on their shortlist
Anyhoo, it's no contest when you compare Van Dijk and Sterling.
Take Sterling out of that City side and it'll hardly dent them, Bernardo Silva has been just as influential to them this season. He's not even the best winger in the league.. Son has been far better, and he's been missing for weeks due to international duty
Take Van Dijk out of the Liverpool team and they're in the top 4 dogfight with Chelsea, Arsenal etc.
He's head and shoulders the best player in the league, and just shy of Messi for top player this season in all leagues.
He's been the major influence in the league's best defence.. not to mention he's done that with Lovren and Matip alongside him
What would your top 6 shortlist look like?
Mines would be:
VVD
Son
Sterling
Bernardo Silva
Jimenez
Hazard or Edison (probably Edison as Hazard blows hot and cold)

Don’t want to jinx him but it’s true what a previous poster said about not putting a foot wrong.
He’s weighed in with goals and been absolutely world class for us at CB.
It’s an unforgiving role especially at the sharp end now where any mistake can be extremely costly.
It’s ok to miscontrol or misplace passes in the attacking side of the game as it won’t lead to conceding a goal. To play with calmness and intelligence at the back is not easy and VVD makes it look easy.
Recent example is Sissoko and Park v VVD, made exactly the right decision.

Sterling has been outstanding player in a team that is the best in the land, easily player of the year
Son deputised when Kane has been sidelined and helped his national side in two tournaments and still producing goals that matter so Son definitely as good as any Liverpool player and very influential.
