The left side

Clearly a problem for us in recent years and despite investment, it's as poor as ever.

We have De Bock, Douglas and now Alioski/Berardi trying to solve teh left sided problem and its not worked, and I don't think any co incidence that when you add Harrison into the equation, we deliver very little offensively and are weak defensively on the left side.

I've been very disappointed with Douglas, especially when you see what others have contributed in the league in this position.

I hope we see upgrades on that side of the pitch for next season.

Douglas wasn't the best after coming back from injury but whilst not probably hitting his Wolves form I thought he was ok, Alioski can neither pass, cross or shoot, I would rather have Jack Douglas than him, Harrison gets in good positions then can't deliver, do I need to go back into the loft ?

Douglas was good the first half of the season. Not played much since and while Alioski has done well, his delivery and passing isn't as good.

Left wing is the problem. Harrison has 4 goals and 2 assists. Which is really poor from the amount of the ball he gets.

We have 3 issues to resolve regardless of which league we are in.

Pace. Again we saw yesterday Wigan players being able to run past players and get 50-60m with the ball running past players in the process. Happened multiple times. At the other end nobody could beat a fullback. They all tried and they all failed and it’s much more efficient having a player who can run past a full back than having to carve a side with 3 or 4 passes.

Fullbacks and wingers. The lot of them. Not a single player in our team who can whip a first team ball over. Crying out of it yesterday but we have players who need to take a touch of two before delivering giving defenders time to set and it’s frustrating for strikers who then need to adjust.
Ayling the worst, takes 1-2 touches and about 6 stuttering steps before delivery. Compare that to Mel Sterland in 1989. If you can’t have pace you need the ability to first time cross or have a good shoulder drop to find half a yard. We don’t have it which is why consistently over the season we have seen us have 70% possession without doing a lot with it at times.

Goalkeepers are not good enough. Casilla has had enough time now to settle in but his judgement and decision making is poor and he makes too many mistakes. Often seen diving the opposite way to where the ball has gone.

Been a great season and I don’t want to be too critical of any player because they are all doing their best and that’s all you can ask for. The effort was there yesterday in abundance and you could see how much they cared when players dropped to the floor at the final whistle.
