Player of the Year (POTY)

The six-man shortlist for the Professional Footballers' Association Player of the Year award was released yesterday. The list of nominees as per bookies ratings:

1. Virgil van Dijk As low as 1/3 with the bookies as fans across the country have bet on him since after Christmas when Liverpool went 7 points clear. Was kinda declared the winner then and should win it but it will be closer than most people think.
2. Raheem Sterling, should win the football writers award, probably to atone for the shameful articles about him and despite the bookies odds for Virgil he could cause an upset. Apparently interviews of young players who voted Sterling was popular among most young players so it will be interesting
3.Sergio Aguero - His best season under Pep. I have seen him play better but what I have loved watching him this season was his bottle and passion. Loved his goal against Liverpool at the Etihad. Just reminded everyone what a class player he is.
4. Eden Hazard - For me the most talented and best player in the league. Most wont agree with that but in terms of ability few even come close. If he played for City or liverpool it wouldn't even be an argument. Just because he has played under defensive managers works against him.
5. Bernardo Silva - Citys best player this season and should win the clubs prize. He is just an amazing player, ability, bottle and intelligence. You dont get all those qualities from every top player you buy and only 24.I remember conversations last season that he was another vanity purchase by City and a waste of Β£43.5 million.
6. Sadio Mane - For me the most difficult player to stop in the premiership when he is running full speed at you. Has added the end product this season and stepped up big time when liverpool wobbled in February. I still think Salah is the better player due to his goals and reliability but Mane is some player.

Notable omissions are Son Heung-Min who with only 12 goals I just don't see who he comes in over. Mohamed Salah is another notable omission. Of the top scorers with 16 goals or more him and Aubameyang have missed out on the shortlist. With Salah doubt he would have won either way as he has failed to reach the heights of last season and his diving just turned a lot of people off.

No Arsenal or Man united player. Must be a first in a long time. No Kane too

I hope Raheem wins it

Yaya Toure and KdB were the key players in City winning the title in 2014 and 2018 respectively.

Both years the award went to a Liverpool player, so if City do lift the title again I expect it to go to a Liverpool player again.

I think Virgil should win it.

But if Sterling does then fair dos. He has had an excellent season.

Sterling has had an exceptional season but for me the clear winner is VVD. Pool look unbeatable when he's marshalling the defence.

Yeah VVD should win it. He's had more of an impact on the team than Sterling in my opinion.

Still think they should wait until the end of the seasons before doing the awards. Plus lowerythe young player awards to under 21 only

Salah's diving turned people off him? So how did Aguero, Sterling, Bernardo and Hazard get in? They got in, despite the diving as they have been better than Salah. Salah has still scored a lot of goals. He scored a crazy amount last season. He's a goalscorer and doesnt player great in most games but scores goals.

VVD
Sterling
Bernardo
Hazard
Mane
Robertson

In that order for me.
