Another substitute appearance for Bennett yesterday. He provided a good assist for the second goal. Maybe we would have won the game anyway but it helped settle the nerves.
Bennett has made 19 substitute appearances in the Championship this season if my research is correct. The state of the game at the time of his entry to the fray has been:
Leading 5 games
Drawing 9 games
Losing 5 games
potentially getting 24 points
At the end of those 19 matches the results were:
Win 10 games
Draw 5 games
Defeat 4 games
achieving 35 points
Twice Bennett’s introduction has coincided with a turnaround from losing to winning games, and three times from a draw to a win. Only once, against Millwall at home, has Bennett’s arrival ended up with us worse off, a draw becoming a defeat. Overall there has been a net gain of 11 points, without which we would be in 14th place with 59.
These are surely impressive stats considering that Lampard rarely makes subs before the hour mark, often quite a bit later than that. Bennett’s starting stats are more mediocre: 10 games with 3 wins, 4 draws and 3 defeats, although in one of those we were leading the match when he was withdrawn, only to subsequently draw..
Is Bennett under-rated by Derby fans? Some of us think he is above his natural level in the Championship but the stats suggest otherwise.

I can remember the Liverpool game and we were all nervous wondering if we could do the impossible. When I heard that Steve Powell was playing right back I thought BC had gone mad. But he knew quite a lot more than me.
