I am the biggest optimist but after today I have accepted we will not be playing in UCL next season. The only positive is that even if we were in the UCL we will simply be there to make up the numbers. There is a lot of work needed to be done at utd and getting top 4 would probably paper over the cracks. We need to refocus and rebuild properly rather than looking for a quick fix.
2 players I will like to single out not just because of today but there presence at the club
1) Herrera is so underappreciated because he is unspectacular but he is the one player that I will hate to lose because he plays like he knows what it means to be at the club.
2) I love pogba, but he is the antithesis of herrera. It is all about him not the team. The amount of times a simple pass would have been enough to break free and he chooses to go on a run just to show case his ability. Watching pogba is like watching the kid with all the ability on the playground who just wants to show off his ability. Certainly not a player to build a team around especially seeing as he loves madrid so much.

I don't think CL is that important. I do think there needs to be a pretty immediate clear out though, simply because all the players I listed above shouldn't be at the club next year and I doubt anyone could give a reason to keep a single one of them

when I look at our players the fall int these general categories in my eyes.
trash players: young, fred, sanchez, rojo, darmian, jones
not what we need: lukaku & pogba & mata
decent but we could do better: shaw, smalling, matic
good: ddg (until the last few months), herrera, lindeloff, bailly (if you forge this season and his injuries)
potential: rashford, martial, dalot,

and that is why I am putting a positive spin on not finishing top 4 this season as it will allow us the time to take stock and plan for the long term.
